Zoo Tycoon 2

Okay, I gotta say, I LOVE this game. It's not super new but I have almost all the EPs for it (the dinosaur one just seems stupid to me). It's super cute, fun to play, complex, and moddable. I'm working on making a black-footed ferret right now, and I installed a whole pile of animals and plants yesterday.

Anyone else playing ZT2? :)

I play it now that I have a new computer I play zoo tycoon also, because I have all the eps for that one. I love the game. I have to use cheats on the game, because I don't have the patience to get the money. I have only seen one cheat for Tycoon2. Tycoon 1 has many cheats. I love the graphics on ZT2.

The dinosaur one looks stupid, but is really worth it, if nothing else, for the bug fixes and changes in the zookeeper AI. So unless you like constantly hearing "Zookeeper Mel can't reach the large poop" and seeing your staff sitting on their bums on benches, maybe sometime when you have the cash you should pick it up anyway. :)

Yes, I love it. I used to play it last year but I had to uninstall it because the game crashed after about 5 minutes of playing.. but now I've got a new computer, so I think I'll install it soon. hopefully it will work fine..

It's a great game. I played the original until Zoo Tycoon 2 came out, and I played the second one avidly for years. I only have the first two EPs, since I stopped playing shortly after the mini dinosaur pack (not the EP) came out, I think, and I started playing TS2.

I love it! I own every EP *installing EA now* And I love it! I started playing with the first game's complete collection, then i got ZT2, lost it, bought the Zookeeper Collection and Marine Mania and Extinct Animals :D

I had to review it back when it was release but I must be honest it didn't hold my attention for too long.

It did what it did well however, just not my thing I guess. I gave it a 7 from memory.

The dinosaur EP isn't bad at all. I thought it would be, but it's kinda funny watching them eat people.........:lol:

I was hooked on the ZooTycoons, I have special editions of all 3 of them( the ones that come with all ep's) I loved them, but was also frustrated. I admit I preferred doing the scenarios, however had to find cheats for some of them, just couldn't win them. I am actually stopped at a certain scenario in all editions right now, because I can't seem to beat them. Then my son thought since I liked the zoo series so much, he bought me Sims DD this past Christmas. Ha, guess you know what I have been doing since then. I should try to play again.

I go through spurts of playing Zoo Tycoon- 1 and 2. Months will go by without me touching either of them, then I'll play for days.
I'd rather play 2, but I don't have Marine Mania and I really, really want that one, so I play 1 more.
They're fun though and I've never needed a cheat to beat a scenario. I didn't even know there were cheats or that you could create stuff for it!

Roller Coaster Tycoon is fun, too. ;)

I know now why my post looked so odd,lol. There wasn't actually a ZT3, it was the Ultimate collection, has all the expansion packs included. Might I say, cheaper then Sims are bundled. Anyway after this thread, I got the game out and started playing again.

I am looking for a new game to play and saw "Ultimate Collection Zoo Tycoon 2" and was wondering about it. Is it interactive like sims, can you download custom content, are there hacks and cheats like in sims. Please help me to understand why I would just love this game. I like to be totally absorbed in a game, love animals and building and watching characters do unexpected things.

I started playing ZT shortly after it came out and that was the path that eventually led me to The Sims. As for modding, oh yeah, we had a nice sized modding community with many, many custom animals, buildings, etc. There were some awesome people involved. A large group of us designed scenarios, and one person put them into a user-made expansion pack. Oh yes, oh yes, we had a lot going on with the original ZT back in the day. (Just about anyone playing the original ZT will remember the Zoo Tycoon Download Directory--that was originally my site, but later I ended up giving it to the person who had the idea to begin with.) I was so involved with everything ZT it was cutting way too much into my personal life and I was at serious burn-out stage.

I didn't get into ZT2 early on, still suffering from burn-out and was too busy with Sims 2. I did, however, buy it much later then started picking up expansion packs over time after the prices came down.

In ways ZT2 will never top original ZT but in other ways it is far superior. There are many, many things about it I do love, but one thing that drives me completely insane are the weird animations of the guests walking. The animations for the animals are so absolutely awesome, that I was completely blown away at how poorly the guests were created. One thing I definitely love about ZT2 is the ability to be the zookeeper. That is always a lot of fun. I don't, however, really care for how they designed the game play. You're either playing a scenario, playing a challenge zoo, or just flat out playing free-play with unlimited money. I love free-play, but I want to worry about how much money I'm spending. The challenges drive me berzerk. I hate trying to snap pictures of stuff to complete things. I have one zoo that has been saved at the point of taking a picture of the secretary bird eating a live lizard for the past two years now.

I tend to play ZT2 rather sporadically, and over the past several years of my off and on playing have never managed to hit a site that has much CC for ZT2 while the CC was actually intact and uploaded. When OgresNet closed Zoo Admin, which was always a good source of CC, someone else took it over and was putting everything on a new site and it was taking them a long time to get everything back together. It may be put back together now but I haven't checked since early this year.

I tend to agree that dinosaurs seem rather stupid (the dinosaur expansion for original ZT was so much better). I bought that particular expansion pack mainly because I absolutely adore many prehistoric mammals and wanted to add those to my game. Then here I sat one day last winter building one of the most fabulous zoos ever, with a pathway over the top of the Sicilian elephant exhibit, when all of a sudden the guests started falling into the exhibit, and nothing I did would keep them out. Come to find out, this is an actual bug in that expansion, which was never fixed!! I thought EA was the only game company with that shoddy of practices.

I agree, there were alot of things in ZT, that I did prefer. Like you I also love the animations of the animals in ZT2, but the people really %^%^, lol.

It is to bad that they can't put the good parts of ZT2, animals, etc. with the sims.

I think in the sims, other then your pets, that having statues of animals also %%%. Wouldn't that be an awesome game, especially if you were the zookeeper.

I love Zoo Tycoon 2. It's such a cute, fun little game. I haven't played it in a while though, but I'll eventually go back to it. I only have two EPs. I forget which ones. I've never downloaded any CC for it. I will have to do that next time I play to make things even more interesting. :)
