I am playing with The Sims 3 and the installation pack World Adventures. I doubt it is my system specs, as my game worked fine (with the expansion) up until yesterday when this crash began. I have tried a system restore, clearing my brower / cache, clearing cookies, checking my firewall, but nothing has worked. I've tried the TS3 website but their advice also did not help and I've tried to e-mail them but waiting 24 hours for every response is hardly efficient, and when I call them I end up waiting half an hour on hold just for the lady to tell me she can't help me. I've also cleared out all of the existing files and reinstalled the game 5 times and that didn't help. I also have no mods in my game.

Here is the error: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj188/Helga_bones/SimsSS.jpg?t=1262476194

And I am playing with the most up to date patches.

Known issue with the 1.8/2.3 patch.
Read sticky entitled "Launcher woes after installing patch 1.8/2.3? Look in here!", if you hadn't done.

"General/Other - Launcher woes after installing patch 1.8/2.3? Look in here!"

Okay this is really confusing. I was following the steps when I did this:

and it saved like this not how it had in the picture:

It's probably my fault for not being able to follow instructions but I'm not that computer savvy I've spent hours trying to fix this thing :<

I've prettied it up further with more and bigger pictures and edit it to include this info. Read the sticky again, please.

What you're seeing is Notepad appending the .txt file extension automatically. You need to do a "Save As" and then under the Save As type dropdown, select All Files, then click Save.

You might need to unhide the file extensions if you cannot see files with .cfg extension:
Open Windows Explorer, you can do this by opening up any folder or My Computer.
7/Vista: Click “Organize”, scroll down and click “Folder and search options”.
XP: Click “Tools”, scroll down and click “Folder options”.

Click the “View” tab. Scroll down until you see “Hide extensions for known file types”, un-check this line here by clicking on the check box.
Click “OK” and now your file extensions will now be shown and you can edit the filename.
