ok, so maybesomethingdunno found some hidden accessories in the game folders but didn't want to make them into accessories to be worn by sims, simply made one of them into a wall decoration. I decided to take on the task of making them into wearable stuffs since he provided the GUIDs. My question is this: the earring would look simply awesome if i could make part of it appear transparent. Can it be done? And still be recolor-able? I'm prepared to offer it as entirely opaque, but if it's possible to have it be transparent I'd like to offer that up as well.

I think it depends on the earring. You could, in theory, change the mesh to make it alpha blendable, and then adjust the opacity on one particular piece with the alpha texture.

i didn't think of doing that. In the original mesh, the "jewel" part of the earring (the part i want to make transparent) was originally handled by the material definition, but my reworking of the mesh changes that so the texture will show up there. I suppose what i really want to know is if accessories can have an alpha layer like body meshes can? so i can make that layer be all transparent like. I suppose i can just make the alpha layer over the jewel parts be see through, hopefully that works how i intend it to. i suppose trial and error is my only way to go, i just wondered if anyone had attempted something like this or not and could tell me what they did.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. After all, glasses are accessories and they have a transparent mesh part.

Yes, but the transparent part is the lens, which is only recolorable by the material definition i believe. That is the way i think eaxis intended the earring to be made too (the jewel recolorable only by the material definition). But I want it to be easily recolorable, and SimPE scares the crap out of some people (it used to scare me until i started meshing)

I've tried to make just the part where the jewel is transparent, but either I screwed up when telling it to use the alpha layer or something is wrong with bodyshop, cause now it crashes when i try to load the earrings. Going to try linking another recolor to the mesh and hopefully not goof up this time.

EDIT: Alright, linked a new project to the mesh, fixed it to use the alpha layer, and its working! The jewel is see-through now. A little bit too much, but that's easily fixable on the alpha layer
