frontier & Eve Type games

Hey All, I have been playing Frontier Elite 2 for like 20 years and I'm playing it right now with the use of an amiga emulator. I tried Eve and thought it was my kinda game but Didn't like the whole monthly subscription thing. Anyhow is there any games out there that are just like Eve or frontier that I can get my hands on?

The X series is absolute epic and exactly what you are looking for. You can get the X Superbox which is a compilation of all 5 games in the series. Although, as each entry improves on the last, you would be better served by just picking up the most recent X game - X3 Terran Conflict. There's little reason to play the prior games.

It isn't a particularly easy game however. However if you were able to successfully wrestle with EVE Online's steep learning curve you should have no problems here.

Just to give some context here's an excerpt of my review of the game from PC Powerplay back in 2008.

Terran Conflict is not everybody’s game. It may be more accessible than previous entries but that is not to suggest much headway has been made in this area. I would loved to have scored the game higher but it can’t be ignored that this is a difficult recommendation to make to most people. Despite this there is little doubt this is the best X game to date and if your are the kind of person to take to such a title this could well be the game that makes you forgo all those other big releases just to spend more time amongst the stars.


Verdict:

One of the most daunting titles this year is also one of the most rewarding.

I absobloodylootly loved Frontier. I still have copies for both Amiga and PC, still have the boxes and maps too.

Here's hoping David Brabben one day still makes that true follow up to Elite 1 & 2
