The polygon count on various custom content downloads..

So I'm totally new to custom content and the world of MTS, so what is the polygon count, and why does it matter... should i take certain notice to it? :) :p Thanks in advance.

Here's some good info for you: Game Help:Poly Counts - it's written with TS2 in mind, but the same still applies to TS3, with the counts for objects being in a similar range to TS2 (maybe a little bit higher), and things like clothes/hair/etc. (sim content) being roughly doubled for TS3.
