Recently I bought "The Sims 3 Starter Pack" from Origin and shortly after playing it for 20 minutes I get a CTD. This seems to happen mostly when I am in the CAS Menu, and I will know that it is going to crash because the entire menu goes black. The sim and the background will still have their textures, but the menu completely goes nuts. I am not sure what is going on, but the most I can get out of the game is about an hour before it decides to crash. Most of the time I can only play for 20 to 30 minutes of gameplay. I only have a few mods on the game, the main one being the AwesomeMod but most are skin retextures for the sims themselves and a Maid outfit from here. There should be no reason why it is crashing, My computer should be more than capable of playing it. I have an NIVIDA GeForce GTX 950 with 2 GB of GPU, Intel i5-4570 @3.20GHz, 12 GB of RAM, and a 64-Bit Windows 10 Operating System.

From my experiences with similar problems, I suggest first downloading Delphy's Sims 3 Dashboard Tool from this site... http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=387006. Basically, it looks at custom packages to see if there are issues, conflicts, etc. It doesn't look at TSRW items as far as I know.

Its easy to use and you should have it anyway as its good for checking new CC after you install it, but before you start the game. I downloaded a couple of Sims 2 packages a while ago that were labeled as Sims 3 and crashed my game. Dashboard found them for me.

There are many threads on locking up and or shutting down with a lot of replies from modders and other smart people here. Check them out. One thing I have no clue about is Windows 10, or if there are compatibility issues with Sims 3. I've never seen anything about that combination. Also check if the creator of the CC says it works with whatever your current patch is.

Last resort is to reload your game, run it with no CC, then reload CC one at a time, which is tedious once you have 100 or more downloads. Good Luck.

This was happening before any of the mods were installed. I have no idea what is going on, but it shouldn't be the mods because it was happening with a clean game.
Edit: I just used the Sims 3 Dashboard and found out that some of the default content was corrupted. Now I have to download the whole game again.GAHHH!

As @nitromon posted, Delphy's is for scanning the mods. Anything else will show just about everything is "corrupted".

The screen going black (in bits or completely) sounds like the game is using too much memory and doesn't have enough to keep going anymore. This happens when I spend a lot of time in CAS, CASt and Build/Buy Mode, and switch between them.

If you do that, I heavily recommend getting Master Controller and disabling recolors showing up in CAS (e.g. instead of seeing the base version of a shirt + 2 other color options to fill the row, you will only see the base version). This will lessen the load on your PC, especially if you have a lot of content in CAS.

Nraas / Master Controller / Settings / CAS / Show in Compact Form: Accessories (/Clothing/Hats) -- set these to True

Edit: can you try to see if the game crashes when you use a specific piece of CC e.g. adding a skintone or item of clothing to a sim?

The DEP settings no longer need to be adjusted. Somewhere around Patch 1.63 and 1.67 DEP was already disabled for S3 by default. This can be checked when in game by accessing Task Manager, Processes Tab. It should show Disabled in the Data Execution Prevention Column. If you do not see that column go up to the View Option and within the Select Columns option you can add the column. If those setting were changed it would be best is to return to that panel and set it for "Use for essential Windows Programs and Services only" which is the default.

Either way it will take about 7 to 10 hour before I will be able to play the game again to find out the problem. I Uninstalled the game and now have to redownload it. If anything happens after this I will know that it is something to do with the base game and not any of the custom content.

So after playing a clean game I once again get a CTD. There are no mods, just the three games (High-end Lot Stuff, Late Night, and the Base Game). Something is wrong and I don't know what.

Do you have something running in the background that is making everything go to the desktop? Kind of like taking over your computer ( Like windows updates do)? It sounds like something other than sims may be causing the problem. Try this:

Click Start
In the empty box there type msconfig
Choose the tab Services
Check the box Hide All Microsoft Services
Look through the list and see what is running

Could it be something in that list causing you problems?

The problem is that I am running a Windows 10, I can't turn off the Windows Updates and I have no idea how to use Cortana.

Do you have the option to run the game in compatibility mode?

Well here is the deviceconfig.log file. I was one of the many people to update to Windows 10 so when I looked through the deviceconfig.log and saw that it said Windows 8 I was a bit confused.

Sadly no. I've done that and it doesn't work.

Quick question. I can probably fix the texture override but I am not sure what to change with the GraphicCard.sgr. The NIVIDA GeForce GTX 950 is not there.
