Thanks. :3
Man, doing the conversation with Indigo and Quinn made me feel for him, though. Damn it Tate, even when you're trying to do a (creepy) favour, you fuck with people's heads.

What's that? You think Brie and Annalise should be killed off? Alright, can do! :v

Also, was it Abraxas' idea that a newborn baby needed her ears pierced? Because that just seems like something he could insist on. |
Honestly, that didn't spring to mind, but now you mention it, yeah, I can see it too. And probably did the same to his other daughters as well. I'm now imagining the reason Jezebeth and Aura aren't pictured with earrings is because Jez learnt - and taught Aura to - stab Abraxas with them. Canon.

Poor guy, no wonder he feels so insecure.

Yes, I like this.

Thanks Funny how those past couple of posts worked out. Two tales of anger, then two tales of support, in different circumstances. Roxxi is still finding it hard to adjust back to a normal life after seventeen years of Tate, and having to do it in another country, away from your partner, in a relationship that hasn't really begun... It's difficult.
Seth has the support right there, but he's stubborn. I need to go deeper into his issues, but I'm also aware of having a million plotlines going on.
Here's two weeks of past posts. First one is a bit filler-y, the second is definitely not.

‘Hi.’
‘Good morning. How was your prom?’
‘It was amazing. I had a great time.’
‘Good! I’m really pleased for you.’
‘Thanks.’
‘What happened? Give us all the details.’
‘Well, umm…’
‘That sounds promising.’
‘…Logan asked me out. I’m his… um, girlfriend now…’
‘Aww, good for you! I always figured you had a crush on him, to be honest.’
‘Oh, was it obvious?’
‘Well, it’s not very often I see you smile like the way you did at the park with him. Aww, I’m glad. You deserve a bit of happiness.’
‘From what I’ve seen of him at school he seems a lovely boy.’
‘Yeah, he’s really nice.’
‘Maybe you should bring him round for dinner.’
‘Oh, definitely! We’d love to get to know him a bit better.’
‘You two just wanna vet him, don’t you?’
‘Ah, we wouldn’t interrogate him or anything like that. Just spend some time with him.’
‘Good. I wouldn’t want him to be scared off. It’s bad enough that there’s the awkwardness with Dad.’
‘Don’t worry about that. He’ll never have to meet him.’
‘Yeah… He does know some things already. Not all of them, though. I don’t know how I’d ever mention any of that…’
‘Ah, well… Best kept to yourself until you know he can be trusted. If ever.’
‘I just wish things were a bit more normal. I wish I had a regular mum and dad to introduce him to, parents who’d be happy for me. Not having to hide horrible secrets.’
‘Well, you’ve got us as your family. The rest… yeah, I wish we were normal, too.’
‘Even though the circumstances are far from normal, you still are, Saraya. You’re a fantastic young woman who can have a perfectly happy and healthy relationship. Nothing needs to hold you back from this.’
‘Thanks… I’ll do my best.’
Later...
‘Hey, sweetie, your dinner’s going to be ready in ten minutes.’
‘Okay, thanks.’
‘What are you looking at? That all looks very serious.’
‘It’s about Tiberium energy. On TV the other day they said it’s dangerous!’
‘Oh, wow… That’s not the response I expected. Well, we already use nuclear energy.’
‘But they said it’s worse. Causing mutations in people.’
‘Oh dear… Maybe you shouldn’t worry yourself over it.’
‘Nothing’s gonna be fixed by ignoring it, though! Not enough people care about the environment! I even heard Dad calling it “hippy crap”.’
‘Sorry, Zeus. I didn’t realise you felt so strongly about it… Maybe you should talk to him if you’re really concerned, hm? He’s definitely in a position now to do more.’
‘You’re right… I should try!’
‘Only after you’ve had some dinner, though.’
‘Alright. You know what? I wanna be a politician when I grow up, just like Dad.’
‘I think you’d be really good at it.’
‘Do you think Dad would be proud if I did?’
‘Of course… I think he’d love the idea of inspiring you to be like him.’
‘Why wouldn’t I? He’s the mayor! That’s so cool.’
‘Still… We’ll both be proud of you no matter what, okay? You don’t have to be like either of us. As long as you do what makes you happy.’
‘Yeah. I think Carmella wants to be like you, though. She’s always talking about babies and getting married.’
‘Aww, well, Carmella’s a romantic.’
‘She says she wants to marry Jeff Hardy.’
‘I’d hope she’d pick someone closer to her age! Anyway, if she did marry a wrestler, then she’d be nothing like me. Right, let’s go set the table.’

‘Oh, it’s you. What do you want?’
‘Can we come in?’
‘We…? Whose baby is that?’
‘I’ll tell you inside.’
‘…Fine.’
‘It’s my baby. I know I have no right to ask you for a favour, but-’
‘Then don’t. I’m not inclined to do you any favours after everything you’ve done to be and to be honest, I don’t know how you even have the nerve to ask.’
‘I wouldn’t ask if I weren’t desperate.’
‘It’s none of my concern. You’re not my friend, and I only tolerate you visiting when it’s related to Saraya. And now that she’s eighteen, you’re not even supporting her any longer, so what makes you think you can demand anything else from me?’
‘It’s not always about you, Edward.’
‘Well, isn’t that rich, coming from you! Who is this baby’s mother? Because it’s not Roxxi’s baby, is it?’
‘He. It’s a boy.’
‘Answer the damn question.’
‘Alright, I had an affair. You don’t need to know her name. The short of it is, she’s had this baby and dumped him on me, and now she’s skipped town.’
‘And…?’
‘You always wanted to be a father, didn’t you?’
‘I may as well already be one, to your other children that you’ve neglected and abused over the years!’
‘I’m serious, Edward. I need you to raise this child as your own.’
‘What…? Why me?’
‘Because we’re related and you can pass him off as your own. I can’t just put him up for adoption, I can’t be involved in that. If news of my affair got out…’
‘And why the hell would I cover for your affair?! Lying to poor Roxxi, too! This isn’t fair, Tate. You can’t ask me to do this.’
‘Poor little mite. His mummy didn’t want him, and now nobody does.’
‘Are you serious? She really left him with you?’
‘That’s what I said.’
‘But… why? You don’t think it’s odd for a mother to abandon her child like that? You don’t think she might be mentally ill? You should be calling the police.’
‘I don’t want the authorities involved in this at all. She was fine, honestly.’
‘I don’t like the sound of any of this. You’re asking me to take on a child… Your child, and his missing mother’s. What am I supposed to tell him?’
‘We’d be passing him off as yours. Say you had a brief fling but now the mother isn’t interested. It’s not really a lie: just my situation, as yours.’
‘Of course that’s still a lie! This is ridiculous!’
‘What’s the alternative? Leaving him to the system?’
‘How about telling the truth and taking responsibility for your actions, for once in your life? You cheated on Roxxi, you had this child and now you should be trying to track down his mother and dealing with this on your own. Not me.’
‘Alright, fine. I’ll just leave him somewhere. I’ll pick a nice doorstep, maybe in the middle of nowhere-’
‘That is not what I meant!’
‘I’m not prepared to ruin my career and marriage over one mistake. You think that’ll do the triplets and Roxxi any good, especially when she’s pregnant too?’
‘Yes, of course, lying to your wife over getting another woman pregnant is the basis for a healthy marriage. How silly of me not to realise.’
*cry*
‘…Pick him up, Tate.’
‘No, I’m not doing that.’
‘I’m serious…’
‘So am I. I’m not doing it.’
‘He’s probably hungry, or needs a nappy change. What are you doing?’
‘I’m doing absolutely nothing.’
‘Oh, by way of a fucking change?’
‘You know I’m not good with babies the way you are.’
‘…For Christ’s sake.’
‘What’s the matter, little one?’
‘Hey, where are you going! No, stop!’
‘I’ll sort out all the paperwork, get you a birth certificate, okay?’
‘No! I didn’t agree to this! For the love of God, Tate!’
‘Oh no…’
Later…
‘He just walked out?’
‘Yep. And now I don’t know what to do. I’m not okay with the level of deception he’s asking me to commit to.’
‘No wonder… It’d mean deceiving Roxxi, too.’
‘I don’t think I should become a parent under these circumstances. It would mean going along with all of Tate’s bullshit, and… it’s not fair on this poor child. We need to try to find the mother.’
‘God, he’s gonna be so mad… But you’re right. We should take the baby to the police and tell them everything.’
‘How much is everything…?’
‘I mean, everything about this… About Tate coming over with the baby and what he told you and what he’s asking you to do. They can try to track down the mother.’
‘Right… And one of us should tell Roxxi, as well.’
‘If that could give her the final push to leave him…’
‘I hope so.’
‘Just one thing… Around the force, I’ve definitely noticed this pro-Tate sentiment… It feels weird to me.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘Quite a few of them were glad he won the election. And I’ve heard the odd whispering, about making sure things are okay for him…’
‘…That doesn’t sound at all promising.’
‘No, it doesn’t… But we have to try.’

... and Edward, quite literally, gets left holding the baby. Tate was just waiting for Edward to pick up that baby, as he knew he would, so he could just walk away. 'Cause why should Tate care when he can emotionally blackmail somebody else to do it? Sledgehammer? I'd crush them in a vice - it's slower.
Legend is history as we would like it to be. We pick through the dusts of time for what is worth keeping and, here and there, we occasionally find treasure.

I wonder if they'll find the truth...
And Ellis's job will be harder with the Tate faction -_-'
Still, nice update as usual, Nat ^^

Oh yeah, it was very calculated. And he puts everyone else around him in an impossible position.

I'll admit, I considered going more into her death, but I genuinely couldn't bring myself to. Doing the phonecall update made me sad, putting a face to the person who gave birth to Vincent and how cruel her story is. I felt horrible about it. I'm going to tweak some future posts later on which refer to her situation, just to make it more consistent with what's changed.

If Ellis could convince the Tate faction that there is a woman who was trying to set Tate up for blackmail by dropping off a baby that she claimed was his, they might look for Vincent's mom. Which would at least get a murder investigation started once they found her...
Granted, they might not be very enthusiastic about it, but once they are actually aware that a murder has occurred, they have to either go through the motions of an investigation or admit that they aren't doing their job and therefore should be fired.

So this is probably one of my more fucked up posts. If descriptions of torture put you off... well, I'm surprised you reached this point. :P
‘What the fuck’s goin’ on?!’
‘FOOLISH HUMAN. YOUR WEAPON IS WORTHLESS AGAINST ME.’
‘What the fuck are you, and what d’you want with me?!’
‘I AM RIKARD THE DESTROYER. YOU HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING MILES.’
‘I’ve not been doin’ shit. I’ve been lookin’ around the town, nothin’ wrong with that.’
‘YOU LIE! WE KNOW WHAT WE HAVE SEEN.’
‘You got any proof, mate?’
‘DO NOT “MATE” ME. I DO NOT REQUIRE PROOF. YOU SHALL STAY HERE UNTIL I HAVE BROUGHT MILES.’
‘So you ain’t got any proof then, ‘cause lemme tell you, I don’t even know any fuckin’ Miles. I don’t got a damn clue what you’re talkin’ about, I was just checkin’ the town out and suddenly I’m fuckin’ abducted!’
‘YOUR STALKER WAS THERE AS YOU LEFT WORK. I TOOK HIM TO THE PRISON.’
‘Good job, Rikard. Where was he this time?’
‘BY THE HOSPITAL. HE IS PRETENDING NOT TO KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT.’
‘Well, naturally. We’ll see how long he can hold out under interrogation, shall we?’
‘IT WILL BE MY PLEASURE.’
‘So… you’re the one who has been stalking me.’
‘No, mate. Like I was tryin’ to tell your buddy, I was checkin’ out the town.’
‘I’m supposed to believe it’s a simple coincidence that you’ve been turning up near me on multiple occasions over the past few days?’
‘Yeah. Coincidences do happen.’
‘They do, but this wasn’t one. Who sent you?’
‘Nobody. I ain’t done a fuckin’ thing wrong.’
‘THIS IS FRUITLESS.’
‘I agree. I’m not wasting my time trying to get blood out of a stone.’
‘Why do that, when I can get blood from you instead?’
‘What kind of psycho grabs a rando off the street and starts throwin’ ‘round threats?’
‘What kind of psycho brings a gun when they’re “checking out” a town?’
‘I’m from a rough shithole where crime’s sky high. You don’t carry a piece, you’re gonna get hurt. That’s why I’m lookin’ for a better place, I’m fuckin’ sick of havin’ to fight others off.’
‘A likely story. I wonder what will make you talk faster? You know, I’ll even let you have your pick. Let’s go look. Can you let him out, Rikard?’
‘COME ALONG, HUMAN. FOLLOW MILES.’
‘Fuckin’ Christ.’
‘This one is probably the most well-known. I’m sure you don’t need me to explain it, but I will anyway. It’s an iron maiden. All you do is stand inside it. It’s that simple.’
‘This is called a Judas Cradle. You sit on this one. I’ll let your imagination fill in the gaps.’
‘This is a breaking wheel. We tie you to it, then break your bones, starting with the legs.’
‘This frame is also for tying you to. We could tie you by your arms, or sometimes people like to tie the victim by their legs, hang them upside down and saw between their legs.’
‘This is a garotte. It’s fairly straightforward: you sit on it and we strangle you. But honestly, there’s no fun in that. You’d just die too quickly.’
‘Now, this can go two ways. You tell me who sent you and for what purpose, and you can avoid all of this. But if you insist upon feigning ignorance, you’re going to become very familiar with one or more of these devices. So, which is it?’
‘You don’t have the stones.’
‘That was the wrong move.’
…
‘YOU ARE IMPOSSIBLY STUPID.’
‘You know, I don’t often show this much mercy. Oh well. This should serve as a good warmup.’
‘It was Abraxas!’
‘Abraxas? Oh, now we’re getting somewhere. Why did he send you?’
‘He just sent me to get info, I wasn’t meant to fuck you up or even have contact. The gun was in case somethin’ went wrong. Didn’t think it’d go this fuckin’ wrong…’
‘Oh, I bet. What is Abraxas planning?’
‘...Your death.’
‘Well then. No prizes for guessing who put him up to that.’
‘That’s all I got told, I was meant to be gettin’ info, I’m not hidin’ anything else.’
‘No, I don’t suppose you can tell me anything more serious than that. Very well, I’ll stick to my word. That’s a shame, I was looking forward to it.’
‘WE’RE LETTING THE HUMAN GO?’
‘He’s served his purpose, and we have far bigger targets.’
‘What the fuck’s goin’ on?!’

Hm, it's probably inappropriate to click "funny" on that, isn't it? Well, fuck it, I laughed anyway. :v
So, I have an update too! Couple of things to note:
- A new (but minor) character is introduced here, called Castiel Upton. He's Saul's boyfriend
- Writing from the point of view of a still indoctrinated domestic abuse victim fucking sucks
'God, is Dad still not back yet?'
'No. And I'm annoyed that he took off and left while we were meant to be babysitting.'
'Yeah... I guess we kind of left you in the lurch there, huh?'
'Just a little. Alone with four kids. At least Samhain and Nehemiah were relatively well behaved. But I'm definitely glad they're back home now.'
'Sorry. So, what's Dad even doing? All he told me was he's doing work.'
'I don't know, he's been equally cagey about it with me. Abraxas said "jump", and Saul said "how high?" - the same as it always goes.'
'No offence to your "boyfriend".'
'It ain't happening, you don't need to worry.'
'Your dad's been really upset with you both.'
'Who I date's none of Dad's business, I'm an adult.'
'He's also married, Jin. Sure, Saul doesn't get a say in your romantic life, but the guy is not only old enough to be your dad, he's married and your dad's friend. Or was? I dunno. He thinks Abraxas should've known better than go be sneaking around with his friend's daughter as his mistress.'
'Believe me, I got a big dose of reality off Indigo at her weddin'.'
'And you listened to her? You've not listened to anyone else.'
'I guess hearin' the same thing from several different sources at the same time helped. Plus... I dunno. I think she's been done dirty with that bombin' thing that got pinned on her. It did seem unlike her, and Mr Dowsdell went back against him sayin' how awful Indigo is? My head's all over the place.'
'What did she say to you? To be honest, with Indigo's temper, I'm surprised she didn't throw you out.'
'Oh yeah, she wasn't happy in the least. My apology only made shit worse, too. But she got me thinking. She don't think growin' up in a house where people are smackin' the shit outta each other's normal. Dad's desensitised me, but she thought it was an excuse. But it's true, I am.'
'I - I figured it was just what people do.'
'....'
'But she says she grew up in that kinda environment too, that Abraxas knocked her for six a lotta the time. I... I don't get it. S-So we've both grown up around violence since we were kids, Indigo gettin' it personally, and me just watchin' Dad beatin' lumps outta whoever he's datin' at the time. But we've both had real different reactions to it? She says it's fucked up, it ain't right, and... I figured it was normal? I dunno who's wrong here.'
'...Maybe you should talk to a therapist.'
'Can't I talk to you? You know better about this, right? I mean, with Dad...'
'Saul... Saul shows his love in... an unconventional way, I - I guess...'
'His exes left him for it. Can't say I blame 'em. Why'd you hit someone if you love 'em?'
'Your dad's complicated, and easily angered. It'd be better for us all if I didn't make him angry all the time. I don't like other people being exposed to that. ...I'm sorry.'
'But I make Dad angry, and he don't hit me for it. You said it yourself, he's been mad at me for gettin' with Abraxas, but I've not copped a punch from it. And it can't be 'cause I'm knocked up, 'cause not only did that just make him madder, but he ain't ever raised a hand to me.'
'I don't know. And I don't want to talk about this. S-Sorry, Jin. I'm gonna go smoke.'
'Hello?'
'I got some bad news.'
'...Hold on a minute.'
'It's a work call, I need to take this downstairs.'
'Alright.'
'This had better not be about the job I put you on.'
'Yeah -'
'- For fuck's sake! Tate's already told me about how he's been let down by some cretins in Sunset Valley, I don't need to have to call him to say that you're doing the same thing!'
'He found me, Miles! He knew I was watchin' him, I thought I'd been subtle!'
'Jesus Christ. What happened? Did you tell him anything?'
'....'
'...Oh, fucking tell me you didn't. Saul. Tell me you didn't inform Miles of our plans. I thought you were better than that! I put you on that job because you're meant to be tough! Are you seriously telling me you cracked?!'
'Not only that, I could use a change of underpants.'
'...Nice, Saul. Elegant. Dignified. I can't believe this. Remind me to never entrust you with a job that requires a "hard man" again.'
'What the fuck else could I do?! You didn't tell me fucking shit about this bastard -'
'- I told you he's dangerous, do you really want me to go through his entire list of crimes? For a start, we'd be here for a fucking week. But alright, if you really want to know, here's a good one - he cut out a sixteen year old's eye. You have a gun, for Christ's sake, what, did you just hand it over and say "do what you want, just let me live"?'
'He had a fuckin' torture room, you loud mouthed piece of shit!'
'What did you just call -'
'- Are you listenin' to me?! He had a torture room! He had this fuckin' demon appear outta fuckin' nowhere and teleport me into a fuckin' cell! He had all this medieval torture shit, I was strapped onto a fuckin' slab, he was comin' toward me with a knife! What would you have done, beyond askin' him if he's got a legal daughter to fuck?'
'...You've put the rest of us at risk with your loose lips. You should've accepted your fate.'
'...Fucking hell.'
'Oh, fuck you!'
'Nephilim. I'm going to require your help. Saul got caught out on reconnaissance, and told the target that we have plans for him. Chances are, Miles is going to retaliate, either against myself or Tate. I cannot underestimate that he is fucking dangerous, and has strong supernatural forces on his side. You're needed to... even the odds.'

Good chapters, Nat and Bloo :D
Saul got quite lucky there :o
And it look like things will soon turn to shit for Tate and Abraxas :o
And peoples react differently to abuse, that's probably part of why Jin's confused...
Poor Castiel :c
He and Jin both need therapy too :c

Thanks!
And I must admit, I was giggling when we were writing the scene. I can't imagine anyone has ever told Miles he doesn't have it in him to torture before lmao.

Exactly. Her normal metre is broken, and that's partly how she's ended up pregnant by Abraxas in the first place.
...Though it was pretty tactless of her to ask her domestic abuse questions to her father's victim. Not her best moment, and doesn't help.
But yes. Yes they both need therapy, like yesterday.

Ha ha, yeah, that's quite funny, when we know Miles totally has it in him to torture XD
And yup, that was tactless of Jin, but I'm not suprised, she isn't in a healty mental state right now :/

Thanks! Yeah, he made the right call in telling on Abraxas. Who wants to stay loyal to a boss who wants you to get tortured for them, anyway?
Though my sympathy for Saul is pretty limited given how we now know just how he treats his partners.

Awwww, Miles didn't even get to carve his initials into Saul's bumcheek. Now he's got all the more pent-up aggro to take out on Taxas, though. It's not a total loss.
How often does he get to use his torture equipment. Do we even wanna know? O_O

We should have a poll over which of Miles' little 'toys' Abraxas gets to try out first. My vote would be for the Judas chair.
Legend is history as we would like it to be. We pick through the dusts of time for what is worth keeping and, here and there, we occasionally find treasure.

I suspect the equipment in question hasn't seen use in quite some time, but Miles will be happy to change that for the right person, at the right time. He's a very patient man.

Yeah... When I was writing the descriptions of those devices (consulting my good friend the Amnesia wiki, from which some of the object models originate. I still love that game), I was wondering if the update had gone too far. But then I had Miles actually torture a teenager in a previous update, so...
‘Hey, Hazel.’
‘Oh, hey… I didn’t realise it’d be both of you.’
‘Don’t worry, I’m not gonna blow up on you this time. Things have changed since then.’
‘Thanks. You’re right, things are different.’
‘Right. And since Hazel is Wednesday’s girlfriend, it makes sense to call a truce, right?’
‘Yeah. Though I dunno how the triplets would feel about it.’
‘Probably a lot harder to convince. But still! It's early days.’
‘That makes sense… Well, maybe one day. So, what did you want to see me for?’
‘Well, I know it’s a bit cheeky, but I was wondering if you were prepared to help me out again.’
‘Uh, is this for another attempted murder?’
‘No, just a regular beating.’
‘On Tate?’
‘One of his allies. This guy Austin tried to beat me up over the whole meteor thing.’
‘Oh, shit… Are you alright?’
‘Yeah, he didn’t manage to get to us.’
‘Someone I know warned us about it in time.’
‘That’s something. So… is this the first time he’s physically attacked any of you directly?’
‘Apart from the fire. But I dunno if he knew Auntie Raya and Logan were abroad. If he did, then it’s “just” arson and sending a message. If he didn’t… that’s attempted murder.’
‘Look… I’m sorry for what happened, but judging by what happened last time, I’d be reluctant to get on board even for Tate again. I don’t know this Austin. No offence, but why should I risk getting into trouble over him?’
‘I know… It’s just that we feel stuck. He hasn’t just gone after me. He assaulted Jude, put Heath’s mum in the hospital and is the abusive ex of one of the women we know. He’s got a really long history of violence against women.’
‘Oh, Jesus…’
‘It’s true. The prick’s dating my mum, too, to make it worse.’
‘We just don’t want him or Grandad to get away with it.’
‘Ugh… Do you want us to go after Tate again? Teach him a lesson?’
‘No, not “us”. Edward would be really fucking mad at me if he heard I’d enticed your dad into violence.’
‘Yeah, he doesn’t need much enticing… but I get it. I don’t think I can help you out, though. Sorry.’
‘I know I shouldn’t have asked. I wayyyy pushed my luck last time, and I ought to keep my head down.’
‘We knew it’d be a long shot. You’re not our personal attack dog for hire. We’re just fucking fed up of being helpless.’
‘And it feels like we’re stuck in a cycle of violence. I never used to give a shit about that, but… right now it seems one side hurts the other, the other gets back at them and it just escalates. Until what? Someone ends up dead? If that happened… I’d hope it wasn’t one of you.’
‘That’s why I wanted to kill Grandad, so it’d be over. Instead, I screwed it up, and he’s alive to get revenge. Which he did. Or tried to, at least.’
‘You weren’t asking me to go after Tate, though. Going after one of his allies doesn’t hurt him. You know he only cares about himself.’
‘Maybe if it was accompanied by a threat, like “this’ll be you if you don’t leave us alone?”’
‘I like that idea, but does it work? Do you think Tate would take it to heart and change his ways? I think you were right that death is the only permanent solution.’
‘Well, obviously, but maybe it’d buy us some time? A temporary truce? A reprieve, of sorts?’
‘That’d be better than nothing.’
‘Yeah, I see your point.’
*ring ring*
‘Oh, that’s me.’
‘Hello? Dad?’
‘Where are you, Hazel?’
‘Still in Sunset Valley, why?’
‘Okay, good. Don’t go back home. Abraxas is after me, he had one of his cronies stalk me all this time and it turns out he was gathering intel on me, to try to plan my death.’
‘What? How did you find out?’
‘Rikard took him back for a bit of interrogation. He told us himself.’
‘”Interrogation?”’
‘It’s fine, he cracked before anything happened. Anyway, he knows where we live, so don’t go back today. I’d hate to think of Abraxas doing anything to you to try to hurt me. Rikard and I are going to go to Devil’s Port and sort out this little problem, okay?’
‘What, now? You’re not going to rush into this, are you?’
‘I’d rather not hang around for too long. Abraxas will know the game is up once his little friend gets back to him and I don’t want to give him too much time to prepare.’
‘Alright. What do you want me to do?’
‘You could stay with Wednesday tonight if it’s not an issue for them. If it is, go back to Lástima.’
‘Will do. Thanks for the heads up.’
‘Not a problem. Love you, see you later.’
‘Bye, Dad.’
‘What was all that about?’
‘Abraxas is going after Dad, so he’s decided to go after Abraxas first.’
‘Whoa, holy shit! I didn’t realise your dad had beef with Abraxas…’
‘Well, Dad’s always hated the idea of him ever since I told him what he did, but I’d bet this is something to do with Tate.’
‘That wouldn’t surprise me… Wow.’
‘Look, I’ll get back to you guys on the topic of Austin, okay? I’m gonna have to go up to Wednesday’s.’
‘Sure. Thanks for listening.’
‘It’s alright. See you later.’
‘Ah, hello! How lovely to see you again. Please, come in!’
‘Oh, hi. Sorry I didn’t call ahead. I just got urgent news.’
‘Oh. Oh dear, I’m sorry to hear that. Presumably you’re here to visit Wednesday? She’s upstairs right now, I believe she’s currently lost in her own little literary world.’
‘Yeah, but I think you’ll want to hear it, too. It’s about Abraxas.’
‘...Ah. That figures. Well, would you mind keeping an eye on the girls while I fetch Wednesday? It would probably be prudent not to yell up the stairs, especially as she might not even hear it; it’d be of no surprise if she had headphones on. And well, the last time I left those two alone to go and check on something for five seconds, Jezebeth was ever so kind as to grab my dinner off the table and throw it onto the floor. Kids!’
‘Oh, right. Sure.’
‘I won’t be long, I promise!’
‘Wednesday?’
‘Hey.’
‘Oh good, I wasn’t sure if you’d have headphones on. Come downstairs a minute, won’t you? Hazel’s here, she says there’s some urgent news involving Father.’
‘...Oh no.’
‘My thoughts exactly.’
‘Hey.’
‘So, what has the ridiculous overgrown pubic louse of a man done this time?’
‘Well, I got a phone call from Dad not long ago. He said that one of Abraxas’ allies had been stalking him.’
‘Oh. What for?’
‘Who is your father? Having been out of the loop for so long, I don’t know what mine’s up to these days, other than general mayhem and misery causing.’
‘Oh, um. It’s a long story. Dad and Tate are sworn enemies. He said the guy he caught was working for Abraxas and managed to get him to tell him he was gathering intel on him so they could plan to kill him, presumably on Tate’s behalf.’
‘Oh God. Presumably you know that he has a particular preference for considerable cruelty, as well… So whatever he’s planning, it should be completely ceased. I don’t suppose you’re aware of which perfidious pest Father assigned to this task?’
‘No, he didn’t say who it was. But the thing is, Dad’s already planning to go down to Devil’s Port himself to confront Abraxas.’
‘Oh no…’
‘Ooof. How likely do you think you’d be able to talk him out of it? Going to Devil’s Port is not a particularly pleasant prospect at the best of times, and honestly, damn dangerous.’
‘Um, I think Mr Atwood will be able to look after himself okay…’
‘He’s going with Rikard. My uncle, big red demon. I don’t think he can be dissuaded from this.’
‘...I suppose that does put an extra position of power in your father’s favour. He’s aware that Abraxas has supernatural forces on his own side?’
‘Yeah, he does, but I’m not sure if he’s really prepared for it. Rikard is strong, but…’
‘If he can’t be persuaded to call it off, he should at least delay it until he knows exactly what he’s doing, and has a solid plan. Going into Abraxas’ lair isn’t something to take lightly; you should let him know there are things that linger on his side that even the mightiest mind can struggle to take in. Not to say that descriptor applies to me, but I’m still not quite over the whole ORTOS deal.’
‘You’re right. Dad didn’t hurt or kill the guy and he said they let him go, so he said he didn’t want to give Abraxas too much time to prepare.’
‘Ahh… An understandable line of thought.’
‘How has Indigo’s plans to disrupt Abraxas’ life been going, anyway?’
‘Um, it’s been waylaid a bit. She’s been distracted with all this wedding stuff… And… maybe this is bad of me, but I kind of haven’t wanted to remind her, either…’
‘I can’t really blame you for that. I’ll call him back, then, persuade him to wait. He’s got somewhere else to stay, anyway, he told me not to go home in case I wasn’t safe.’
‘Oh, for God’s sake… I’m sorry my imbecile of a father is causing these problems for you and yours.’
‘You could always stay here, with us…?’
‘If that’s okay, I’d like to.’
‘Well, there’s another spare room that’s not the one I’m currently staying in; there’s certainly space to support another person, so even if this were my house, I’d have no objections.’
‘Great. Thanks. I’ll go call Dad again, then.’
‘And of course I’m sure I can trust two teenagers in the first flushes of love to absolutely stick to their own rooms.’
‘Um. Yeah.’
‘Don’t worry, I’m already adding earplugs to my grocery list.’
‘Oh my God, Laz.’

Lazarus you are a 10/10 brother lmao
I'm just imagining if it'd gone differently, Saul having to awkwardly go back home with "MILES WAS HERE" carved in his ass.
Nah, the breaking wheel. Wouldn't want him to try and flee, right?
You're just following thread tradition! :D
