Default I give up. I really tried
So, I have a nice new computer. the game runs great. EXCEPT, of course, it's in windowed mode. I tried to use the graphics rule for windows 10, but I can't get it to work. I have an HP intel Intel(R)HD graphics 620.

I downloaded the one from the site Bulbizzare listed on the fix-it thread. I have UC, so I put it in fun with pets config - nothing. I went to Leefish and tried the one she had - nothing.

Anyone?

I know some people like windowed mode, and I could put up with it, but i really hate that I can only look at three items in the buy/build cat.

In my next life I'm going to aim for being computer literate instead of just so darn beautiful.

Try replacing the Graphics Rules in the Mansion and Garden folder with the one that you had downloaded instead. At least that's what worked for me. I'm not much of a computer literate myself and although I may pretend that I know plenty about them in actuality I know jack squat about them.

@smorbie1 - Try the files that I wrote about here: http://modthesims.info/showthread.p...205#post5419205 I don't know if it will work with an Intel Graphics card but no harm in trying?

Do you have the screen size configured properly for your computer? Might want to check that setting.

Because once you have the proper screen size configured for the computer, you also have to reconfigure the game settings as well to match it.

Wait, are you exaggerating or being literal? If the latter, my goodness, what on earth is your window size? I play in a 1600x900 window (my screen is much bigger than that, but I want room for spreadsheets and stuff), and I can see, like, 80 objects in build/buy, with the catalog window extended. Or thereabouts, anyway. IIRC, my catalog is 4 rows of 20 objects.

In any case, I hope you can get it straightened out. I don't know anything about Win 10, so I'm useless. I do know DeeDee on tumblr was having issues with Win 10 and not being able to play full-screen. I don't know if she ever resolved it, but I'll shoot her an ask and, if she fixed it, I'll relay any info she gives me.

I'm mostly found on (and mostly upload to) Tumblr these days because, alas, there are only 24 hours in a day.

As Squidconqueror said, often times the M&G folder (or whatever your latest SP) needs updating as well as the latest EP folder for these things to work. I can recall several occasions where I needed to update the M&G folder.

You can change your screen resolution using the graphics rule maker. I have Intel HD 3000, so nothing fancy here either.
If you look at the image I uploaded of Graphics rule maker, you see I have changed the resolution so it fits my laptop better. You find the value for Texture memory on the next tab in the program, Device Info, which is also where you add your graphics card.

I went to device manager and found my graphics card is and intel (R), 630 or 50, can't remember right now, but I wrote about it on another thread. I tried the one from leefish, but it's really old and the one from the graphics rule site, newsims, I think.

Yes, Icad, I'm not exaggerating. I believe it's like 800x600, the smallest option available. no other options for window size appear.

Bubblebeam, I downloaded straight from Origin, so everything should be updated. I wouldn't know how to update M&G otherwise.

Fran, what? Other programs show up full sized, so I'm not sure what you mean.

Thanks, guys for all your help. I really would like to be able to play on my new computer.

A bit more complicate solution, but may work as a last resort, have you considered setting up a Windows XP / 7 virtual machine to run The Sims 2 on? A bit barbarian, but again, could work!

Thanks for the suggestion but since I didn't understand any of it, I'm pretty sure that's beyond my quite limited capabilities. :3

@smorbie1 Now I'm thinking about this properly it sounds like you just need to update the graphics rules for M&G. Now I don't have UC but going by a video of it, it seems that folder would be 'SP9' within 'Fun with Pets'? Try updating that or heck even all the EP/SP graphics rules. Had to do that once to fix my blocky water.

Since I haven't seen it asked here I'm asking. Did you right click on the icon to see the properties? And this IS about the game running in Window Mode as I read in your original post. Check with these directions to see if your in Window Mode. Reverse the directions they give. Hope this makes sense.

I tried to use window mode and it didn't work for me, it chopped off the game and couldn't see the whole screen. So I took it off.

I currently run the game on a dual boot with Win7 on the TS2 side. I found it works better than a virtual machine which consumes memory. I'm actually thinking of booting out Win10 altogether.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.

Smorbie, I'm sorry if I'm confusing you-it's like I was just thinking of the configurations of graphics cards and I thought it might be that the two are not matched. Of course I'm stupid and didn't realize that Win10 can and does not play well with the game, so I'm full of nothing. Ignore me.

I never had any problems playing Sims 2 in Win 10. In fact, I find it easier than when I had Win 7, but that could just be me.

If you need help with your graphics rules for UC, I might be able to help you fix the resolution.

Nice Rachel we're having.

I haven't had any problems with Windows 10 and the game either.
If 800x600 is the only resolution that shows up in the Graphics Rule Maker (see my screenshot in the previous comment), chances are that there is a problem with the driver to your graphics chip. I would go to the computer manufacturer's website and update it.

Oh yes, the dual partition is also a good solution, there's only the bother of switching from one OS to the other

If you are not getting any other screen size to appear, then the graphic rules didn't work all the way. It happens to many cards. You will need to alter the file by hand. It is not hard. Go to (whichever drive you installed on) -> Program files x86 -> Origin games -> The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection -> Fun With Pets -> SP9 -> TSData -> Res -> Config

In the Config file click on the Graphic Rules file. It should open in notepad. Scroll down about 3/4 of the way until you see a section like this

Note your numbers on the sides are most likely different, which is why you can't choose another resolution. Just change all the numbers to the ones I have above. I had to do this myself. This will let you choose from any resolution between 800x600 and 1920x1080. Make sure to save it after altering it.

Edit: Also make a copy of the file after altering it, and put it in the CSConfig file as well. You can let it override the one that is in there, or if you feel more comfortable you can move the one out of the CSConfig file, then place the altered one in.

@smorbie1 I did ask DeeDee on Tumblr about her windowed-vs.-full-screen issue, and it turns out I was remembering wrong. She can't get the game to play in windowed mode (which she prefers) and is stuck with full-screen! It's so weird how Win10 reacts so differently to the game on different people's computers. Some people can get it to run without having to do anything at all while others have all sorts of problems and have to fight (and sometimes not succeed) to get it to work. I wonder if it's because Win10 updates so often that different people have different versions?

Well, in any case, I do hope you get the issue resolved. It'd suck not to be able to play on your new computer.

I'm sorry for butting in, and Idk if this will help, but there is a program which forces games to play in windowed bordeless fullscreen. The game must be in windowed mode for the program to force it into windowed bordeless fullscreen, so this won't help DeeDee, but maybe it could help smorbie1? Idk how the game will look if it works since you don't have the options of different screen resolutions, but it could be worth a try maybe? You can find the program here. And here is a quick tutorial on how to use the program.

Also, I know there is a program someone made which will fix all the necessary files for you if you play on Windows 8/10 and have problems with resolution for example. I KNOW I've bookmarked it.. I'll try to find it and then come back with a link. Or maybe you've already tried that one as well? If I'm just writing about methods you've tried, I'm sorry for not being able to help heh D':

As for DeeDee's problem, I just have to ask, I use Windows 10 (newest update I believe) and the command '' -w'' (which makes the game windowed) works perfect for me, has she tried that? I always played in fullscreen but I hated it and wanted windowed bordeless fullscreen, so I used that command to make Sims 2 play in windowed mode and then used the program to force it into windowed bordeless fullscreen. This is how to use the command:
Maybe she hasn't tried this? If she has, then I'm sorry for stating the obvious heh..

I want to thank every last one of you who were so sweet and replied to this thread. I am bowled over by this community and its willingness to help. I read and tried all of the solutions.

Until I got to Jules. You fixed it, sweetie! Thank you EVER SO MUCH. I would gush more, but I've got to start RIGHT NOW moving stuff over so I can play on my brand new computer. I printed out the instructions, and am going to make a copy of the graphic rules maker and put it in my files and on my exterior hard drives so I won't lose it. THANK YOU AGAIN!

AND THANK ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!! (smooches) I would bake cookies for you all if I could. Well, let's be honest, I'd make up a bunch of cookie dough and eat it for you. :3
