I know this is a four month old post, but Green Day is my favorite band, so I got info on Green Day. :D

Green Day formed in 1986 under the name of Sweet Children, but they changed their name to Green Day in 1989. The original drummer was John Kiffmeyer, but was replaced with Tré Cool in 1992 when John went to college. They became big in 1994 with Dookie's release. Billie Joe Armstrong had an on-stage meltdown at iHeart Radio 2012, which resulted in him going through rehab. A lot of their songs ware really dark, just give the Insomniac album a listen , but they also had their share of love songs, which made most of 39/Smooth. Right now they are working on their 13th album, but is not to be expected anytime soon.

A fun fact, the All American Rejects got their name from Green Day's song Reject (found on their 1997 album Nimrod).

Albums and E.P.s in order are 1,000 hours E.P. (1989), Slappy E.P. (1990) 39/Smooth (1990), Sweet Children E.P. (1990), 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours (1991), Kerplunk! (1992), Dookie (1994), Insomniac (1995), Nimrod (1997), Warning (2000), Shenanigans (2002), American Idiot (2004), 21st Century Breakdown (2009), ¡Uno! (2012), ¡Dos! (2012), and ¡Trè! (2012).

That's a lot of research you've done. You must really enjoy the genre.

That album isn't "dark" at all. Until you've listened to some of what Darkwave, Gothic Rock, Electro-Industrial and Aggrotech offer, you don't know what "dark" in terms of music means.

Because the earth is standing still, and the truth becomes a lie
A choice profound is bittersweet, no one hears Cassandra Goth cry
