Sarah Palin's Desire To "Save And Convert The Gays"
WTF? Is this even for real? I would never normally take Lindsay Lohan seriously about anything because frankly I do not like her one bit and I never have. But this was found at a MySpace Celebrity Blog and of course it captured my attention as a gay man myself. It was supposedly written by her and some Samantha person whom I never heard of. I highlighted the gay part in bold...

Current mood: shocked
I really cannot bite my tongue anymore when it comes to Sarah Palin.

I couldn't be more supportive of a woman in office, but let's face it, it comes down to the person, and their beliefs, male or female.

Is it a sin to be gay? Should it be a sin to be straight? Or to use birth control? Or to have sex before marriage? Or even to have a child out of wedlock?

I find it quite interesting that a woman who now is running to be second in command of the United States, only 4 years ago had aspirations to be a television anchor. Which is probably all she is qualified to be... Also interesting that she got her passport in 2006.. And that she is not fond of environmental protection considering she's FOR drilling for oil in some of our protected land.... Well hey, if she wants to drill for oil, she should DO IT IN HER OWN backyard. This really shows me her complete lack of real preparation to become the second most powerful person in this country.

Hmmmm-All of this gets me going-Fear, Anxiety, Concern, Disappointment, and Stress come into play...

Is our country so divided that the Republicans best hope is a narrow minded, media obsessed homophobe?

I know that the most important thing about this election is that people need to exercise their right to vote, regardless of their choice... I would have liked to have remained impartial, however I am afraid that the "lipstick on a pig" comments will overshadow the issues and the fact that I believe Barack Obama is the best choice, in this election, for president...

Palin's Desire to "save and convert the gays"-really??

According to this Associated Press story, the church of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is hosting a kind of conference devoted to the "conversion of Gays" -- no kidding.

Here's the AP text:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) ? Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed since she was a child.

Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.

I feel it's necessary for me to clarify that I am not against Sarah Palin as a mother or woman.

Women have come a long way in the fight to have the choice over what we do with our bodies... And its frightening to see that a woman in 2008 would negate all of that.

Oh, and...Hint Hint Pali Pal- Don't pose for anymore tabloid covers, you're not a celebrity, you're running for office to represent our, your, my COUNTRY!

And in the words of Pamela Anderson, "She can suck it"..

Lindsay- "I have faith that this country will be all that it can be with the proper guidance. I really hope that all of you make your decisions based on the facts and what feels right to you in your heart-vote for obama!"

Samantha- "I love this country- however i wasn't born here and don't have the right to vote- so i beg of you all to really do your research and be educated when you cast your vote this coming november.... and if you're in doubt- vote for obama! Mainly because if she gets elected my green card probably won't get renewed!!!"

xoxo

Of course we have many issues to worry about like terrorism and our economy, but I am of course going to still worry about my rights as a homosexual person. So if this is really true (which it could seem like it is) then what would this mean? Here are some of my worries:

01. Would us gays never see our loved ones in hospitals or know about possible accidents they've been in like we are already being discriminated for?

02. Would us gays permanently lose our right to be granted same-sex marriage?

03. Would this country finally take steps backwards and be warped back into the 1950's?

04. Would we eventually lose our rights as gays and be pushed to heterosexuality and eventually overpopulate the earth even more?

05. What if she fights to put a stop in finding a cure for HIV/AIDS just so that she can argue that it is a punishment from God like Fred Phelps believe? Or take away any medication/help ONLY for gays who have HIV/AIDS just so that they can be "taught a lesson"?

06. What if one day it becomes illegal to be gay and we are all forced to become either straight or celebate?

07. What about those who are so scared and confused because of rejection? Would they be scarred for life after attending this convention?

*sigh* Okay, call me overly paranoid if you want, but I now fear the future of homosexuality. This country CAN turn back and succeed in making it a straight-and-Christian-world-of-morals type of country. I do suffer from extreme paranoia so please excuse me, but at the same time why am I not surprised that this could happen? I mean, why the hell is a grown woman even coming up with such a plan to begin with? She is not acting very intelligent about this. How can she actually believe that us gays CAN and WILL be cured? It's ludicrous! I bet tons of people are happy and cheering about this. Even my own mother would love to see this happen! While it may be Palin's right to believe whatever the hell she chooses to believe, it is NOT her right to enforce it on anyone or do things to change the way people live their lives. What makes her so fucking special where she gets to change everyone's lives? Has it ever occurred to her that this is just the way we are and this is what makes us happy in life? Has she ever even tried to consider our feelings? Ugh, what a selfish bitch! You don't see me trying to change anyone nor enforcing anything on anyone.

Funny how at least Obama spoke FOR gays and even said as much as to make sure they get their rights and he even said "our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters". In fact, according to HRC (Human Rights Campaign) he fully supports GLBT individuals and has even taken photos with them. Why can't we all just promote equality and end all hatred? We are all equal, none of us are better or lesser than the other.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Anyone care to ease my mind and convince me that this is all false and not true and/or not possible? Is it just her way to get votes for McCain to win and maybe then after they win they won't even do much about homosexuality? I am confused and sad and worried and paranoid and now depressed. I suffer from major depression and this is definitely not the kind of news I was hoping to come across.

EDIT: Just to be clear and so that you guys won't get the wrong idea on certain things in relation to gays in my thread... I DO NOT and CANNOT and WILL NOT support the gay extremists who disrespect straight people by trying to sleep with them and not respecting their sexuality just because they lust them. And I also DO NOT and CANNOT and WILL NOT support other groups of gay men such as N.A.M.B.L.A. (National Alliance of Man-Boy Love Association) who are fighting for their rights to have sex with minors, especially children. Basically any physical/emotional/mental harm towards anyone is what I DO NOT and CANNOT and WILL NOT tolerate. It's the extremists of ANY group/organization/religion, etc. in the world that is destroying the image of those groups/organizations/religions, etc. :madashel:

Don't worry. Palin is just a crazy Christian equivalent of a Muslin fundamentalist, but with lipstick. McCain has sacrificed the centre-right by leaning way off to the conservative side, so only a few people will vote for McCain. Obama will surely win.

Ehh, I don't think so. There's too many other factors to add in here in the USA that will likely keep Obama from winning too, so I'm not making any bets about anything until Election Day.

Save the gays! what a load of crap, why is it all these christians think its their job to change people, haven't they heard the old "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone", how about they worry about their own chances of getting to heaven, and leave decent people alone. There is only one rule people should be living by and that's "Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you". I pray that she and McCain don't get it.

Doddibot, I want to believe you, I really do. I'm just scared. I guess after Bush having been reelected and with the way he is towards many of these topics, especially gays, shows you that Americans are not ready for change, that they still want their cute little house with the white little picket fence and the husband and wife and kids and pets included. While I have nothing against that image I don't see why it has to be such a requirement for Americans. Damn it, America, make me proud to be American for just this once by making "change"!

Hahaha, funny thing is, Christians are on the whole much more tolerant of gays than some other religious groups are. My older brother converted to one of those that is way 'out there' on their opinion on how gays should be 'dealt with'. Also, keep in mind many people who call themselves Christians are not Christians. Take my dad for example: he's a severe alcoholic and a sociopath who says he's Christian, but he's definitely NOT. Then again, he is an idiot so he probably really thinks he is one. Lmao.

Gays Are Worse Than Terrorists
Here is the perfect example of what I am so paranoid. Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern speaks out against gays by saying "Gays are worse than terrorists"...

Source: http://daveandthomas.blogspot.com/2...nancy-kern.html

It's not a new article but definitely something to be aware of. And on YouTube you can find yet another video of her bashing gays... AGAIN! Wow, it never ceases to amaze me how cruel people can be. I would never think that way about any type of people. In fact, I even get so pissed off when people classify all Middle-Eastern/Muslim people as terrorists. We need to stop this! Palin needs to stop what she's doing! It's not saving this nation, it's dividing it even more so!

Well, to be completely honest here... but their are extremists in any group. Same with gays. The gays who are extreme about forcing their stuff on me? Yeah, I'd like to just slap duct tape over their mouths.

BUT... the same goes for Christian extremists, Mormon, Black, Hispanic, and every other kind out there that exist. Although it's funny this lady said that, since Oklahoma has one of the lowest populations of gay Americans in the country. All the central states do, although I believe it's not because of people like her... but because the central states are boring as hell. I live in one and they are, rofl.

I went to school with a guy who was gay and he was never once made fun of or teased, and he was openly gay. He was awesome in my opinion, I loved the guy. xD Maybe it's because our school was so small, but you'd think it'd be worse than in a larger school... but yeah, no one was ever mean to him. Everyone liked him.

Oh yes, I can't stand it when gays can't respect straight people and try to sleep with them. That is NOT right! That is why I mentioned "equality" in my first post to let you know that ALL OF US are equal, not just me rooting for gays only.

Oh yeah, totally. I got that. I'm just easily annoyed by extremists of any group, it's like... you know, it's them that really ruins or tarnishes the overal representation of the group because they're the ones heard most: they are loud and obnoxious, so of course they are. It's like, do they honestly think they are helping anyone?

Someone needs to say, "Just shut up and let those who are level headed speak on your behalf and maybe you'd get somewhere." xD

The woman politician from Alaska is definitely an extremist, although honestly it surprises me. Granted, I have no idea how things are up in Alaska but I've always assumed they'd be more tolerant of beliefs with all the different cultures there. Though more likely, she is just one of the minority that got thrust into the spotlight due to her position.

“Gays are worse than terrorists.” So said Sally Kern. That’s a conclusion. Where is the evidence? What did she use to support her conclusion? The bible. She said. Well, if bible is her only source of education, we need to send some money to Oklahoma. They said, mind is a terrible thing to waste, if she had any.

I am not here to criticize Sally Kern, and I am not demanding any apology. If she’s the best representation Oklahomans can find, I offer them my sympathies. She may be an idiot, but she’s the best they got.

Moreover, I am not sure an apology from Sally Kern would mean anything. Anyone standing on a piece of rock, i.e., the mother earth, that’s more than 4 billion years old and still believes the world was created just 6000 years ago, is not going to be very bright, in fact, not more intelligent than a parrot. She’s obviously just repeating what she heard, without the benefit of any intelligent deliberation or understanding.

Taking any offense from someone of minimum intelligence is a waste of time. It’s not they are evil; they are just limited by their intellectual ability. Instead of demanding an apology from her or a censure from her colleagues, I suggest we offer Oklahomans our sympathies. After all, if she’s not a true reflection of Oklahomans are, they are stuck with her until the next election.

LOL. That person obviously doesn't know that Oklahoma ranks like.. number 58 as far as states with the best education system. The entire reason they legalized the lottery and casinos there was to use that money to put into their education, since they can't keep teachers because they are paid the lowest wages of any state in America if they work there.

I never knew that and sadly because of my ignorance would have never imagined so. But that is a very nice thing to hear. We need better education in all states. Casinos aren't really going to make us all successful, you know?

And so I root any President who can change this. However, when you get great things like this ON TOP OF being a biggot, it boggles your mind.

Agreed, the education system all over this country has really gone downhill. It's sad too, since we're supposed to be one of the 'smartest' countries in the world. I still wonder who said that, rofl.

Well I think it's embarrassing to be considered one of the dumbest countries. There are way too many jokes about us because of the way we handle things and the way we promote "freedom" yet still don't actually go by our word, you know? Those are just several of the many reasons why I cannot find it easy to be proud to be an American. Hell, even Canada for being our neighbor is more advanced than we are. They have same-sex marriage and we don't. They also have free medical (not really free but higher taxes to make it seem free). I want that because I cannot for the life of me even afford an HIV test.
#16 Old 15th Sep 2008 at 8:45 AM
I find it so sad that this is what she wants to focus her energy on. No no, please forget the people starving out there who are in need of food and medical supplies etc etc... let's focus on converting gay people into "normal" human beings. Seriously, wtf? Leave the gays be already -_- they deserve to have a life too. It seems with every step they take to lead a normal life, they have yet another political figure presenting them with obstacles. I'm sick of it already.

EDIT: Btw I forgot to add...*shudders at the mention of Sally Kern*

I agree with you 100% GiipsySimKittyn, we need to start focusing on REAL issues and leaving NON-ISSUES alone. Do you honestly think that homosexuality affects our economy or the safety of our nation? Hell no! I find it so amazing how much more energy these anti-gays put towards homosexuality, lots of times more energy than wars and economy. They need to set their priorities straight and grow up. It's actually not very healthy to act this way because it adds onto the hate that is already there to begin with. Hate is not healthy, love is healthy, acceptance is healthy but rejection is not. I would never come up with an attitude against Christians by saying that they should all be wiped out and converted. What right do I have to do so? What specialty do I have to even decide such a thing? Christians have just as much of a right to be who they are as we gays have the right to be who we are.

And McCain! He's obviously supportive of this nonsense. If he has not yet said it, he at least thought it, I'm sure. Besides, I did watch The Ellen Show months ago when McCain appeared as a guest and he admitted that he is not in favor of gays and you can just tell that he will do everything in his power to eliminate them. That is the impression I got, anyway.

While we all may tend to judge in some way or another because it's just who we are as humans, even if it is only subconsciously, we still don't have the right to act on it. We need to accept our differences and move on to more important things.

Actually if she said with the power of prayers, then what are you afraid of? With prayers, there's no compulsion. If they succeed, the gays wouldn't even feel 'converted' I mean, what would happen is they wake up one day and just suddenly feel attracted to opposite sex. If it doesn't succeed, well, nobody will be affected.

She says prayers, Treeag, but it's on some level inciting homophobic movement - 'They're wrong, making a mistake' or 'They're committing a sin' and it does stand a good chance of getting out of hand at some point.

So, she's likening homosexuality to a disease, something that can be cured? 'Convert and save them'? From what, Hell? In that case, like someone above mentioned, premarital sex is a sin, and french kissing is apparently a mortal sin.

But yes, the point of electing a government is to lead a country and assure socioeconomic equality as must as possible and I can't see how that'd work if you're judging and condeming people based on lifestyle - completely legal and between two consenting adults, at that.

What next? Targeting Goths?

No, they don't think it is biologically set in stone. Instead of a disease, they think it a lifestyle choice.

Sorry, I meant disease of the mind, so not so much biological, but psychological Sort of like...hypochondiasis or agoraphobia that leads to a lifestyle choice of being a recluse etc.

Another example being... holding support groups to help drug addicts, either way, they still see homosexuality as a vice.

Honestly, to me it seems like McCain is choosing this woman because she is obviously waaaay Right Wing... and a lot of the Republicans don't really like McCain because he's not strict enough on certain issues. Mainly on illegal immigration from what I've seen and read. So he picked someone to 'balance' that; although he should have just gone with Mitt Romney imo. >>;

EDIT: "She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest ..."

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Are you kidding me? Okay, yeah, this woman is definitely a Christian extremist. It makes me ill to know people like her share my religion.

Well, I am Dutch.. so, really my opinions on this don't really matter...

But I just wanted to add to this discussion that I know 3 gay Americans, and those will all be voting republican! (Yes, I was like WTF when I asked them, but well, they all had their reasons, and the impression I got from them over the years is that they aren't even a bunch of crazy right-wing extremists either.)

Anyway, just to say that being a gay doesn't automatically make you an Obama supporter. Or a democratic voter.

Er...um...Did anyone notice that this is Palin's CHURCH that is hosting this conference, not Palin herself? Did anyone notice that Palin has not endorsed or say that she plans to attend this conference?

It's like the whole thing with Obama's pastor and his controversial remarks and how Obama had to take pains to confirm and reconfirm that he didn't agree with what his pastor was saying. So, what a person's church promotes is not necessarily what each individual attendee of that church personally believes or advocates. For instance, the church that I sometimes attend recently hosted an "Answers in Genesis" seminar. Answers in Genesis is a creationist group. The fact that my church hosted this does not mean that I, personally, endorse creationism. Know what I'm saying? So really, unless Ms. Palin herself says something about this issue, let's not crucify her and doomsay, hmmmmm?

Conservative Christian...who happens to be pro-gay-rights. And a theistic evolutionist, but that's beside the point.
