This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Elsewhere
I know this question should be presented to plasticbox, but I went on the page for the neighborhood and there was the dreaded note that she hasn't logged in some time. I read through some of the comments, and found the question, but not an answer. So here goes:

There are a couple of residences that don't have roads in front of them. Carpools do not come, neither do delivery vans. If there is someone else who plays this, can you help with me a workaround or a solution?

thanks

You could probably use Lot Adjuster to do it. I know you can remove roads so I'm pretty sure you can also add them, but I am unfamiliar with Lot Adjuster myself so I can't help you more than that.

Always read the first few posts of the support thread. Most people who upload neighborhoods describe lot details in those posts. Plasticbox apparently knew a lot of people would have questions about this and left the following comments:

(from the main page) - AL users: on the roadless lots (Cod Island, Hammerhead Cliff), you should NOT use the "walk to school/work" options. Sims that walk to work or school are returned by vehicle, but vehicles have no access to these lots, which means your Sims will never come home. You can safely use the "Walk to [community lot]" option though.

From the notes about Cod Island in post # 19 - (I would have linked directly to this specific post, but it doesn't work for some reason)
http://www.modthesims.info/download...0#startcomments

This lot has no road and no portals, and is sloped on all sides. Mail and newspaper delivery, as well as the NL gypsy, do work -- the mailman/papergirl materialise in their default location (which is conveniently close to the mailbox), do their business, and disappear again (as in *poof* -- like they normally do at the edge of the lot when they walk off). I've put a small pier near the mailbox so we can all pretend they come by boat (as they would have to, it's an island after all). There were no walkbys generated during my playtesting; I didn't test for strays.

Sims cannot leave this lot, neither by "Walk To" nor by car. There will be no taxi, fire engine, pizza delivery or any other cars on this lot, so your sims will have to fish and garden for food (If you order a taxi, the order is taken but the taxi never comes). This is deliberate. If you don't like it, get Inge's buyable portals and the portal revealer and season to taste.

You can either avoid playing those two lots, or find some other way for your sims to make a living (Monique's computer, catch and sell fish, etc.). I would definitely not have a family with school age kids in a house with those limitations. Personally, I would probably not have sims living in a lot like that at all and would just use them for hood deco, but that's just me.

Workaround or solution to what? Did you want cars to come? She removed some of the car portals on some of the lots in that neighboruhood where it didn't make sense to have them. She does warn you about that on the download page I think. Basically, it's as it's meant to be.

You can download buyable portals - Inge's site I think.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.
I'm here on tumblr and my site, tflc

When you read over the description PB explains about those lots, it isn't a problem it was done on purpose, those lots are meant for walking only. If you really want to you could probably add portals. Those lots go down into the sea they are not meant to have roads. I would not use lot adjuster on them, I think you will find it ruins the coastline and it would probably remove the fishing spots on them. The other lot I plan to have a witch live on and she can fly to places.

My fishermen live on one, I like to pretend they use their boat and motor around the side to the main area. In reality, they walk to their fish shop.

I have one of the lots occupied by an old fisherman (who basically funds himself by catching and selling fish) and the other by a reclusive writer. Both are single with no kids and no career-type jobs. Walk to Lot works fine for taking them to community lots to socialise, skill and amuse themselves, and they show up just fine as walkbys when I'm playing other households.

The important thing is not to give them jobs (because they can walk there, but the car home would never arrive), and not to have any kids in the household who need a school bus. Provided you have at least Bon Voyage and Walk to Lot they're perfectly playable.

(It's probably a good idea to get them to a decent level of cooking skill though - or at least install a sprinkler - as the fire service obviously won't arrive if they burn dinner.)

Oh I had a kid on the lot, they adopted one. Just place an institution sign to stop the bus if need be. He homeschooled and learnt how to fish.

I hadn't though of homeschooling, but if either house ever changes hands I might give it a try.

Okay, so the consensus seems to be that I'm stupid, to which I agree. I did read through some of the comments, though obviously not thoroughly enough. Thank you, guys, for your input. I did download the portals and am going to use them. For some reason, I'm not getting the option to fish, and the hood I'm using this for requires everyone to be employed. So, the institution sign wouldn't be the answer I need. Hopefully, the portals.

Thanks, again. You are guys are great and very patient.

I learned the hard way to read comments before downloading ... learned a number of times. I cannot recall how many times I downloaded a mod, a lot, piece of CC, only to see a comment I missed from someone in 2011 wondering why the item wasn't working as well as they hoped, they had the same problem, and no one suggested or implemented a work-around or suggestion, or did and I didn't see it. Oops.

Also, as one who posts really long posts myself ... often ... I know how people can miss stuff in a long post!

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

You have to find the fishing spots, they are CC and tend to be small, you can't just click the water anywhere, but on the exact spot. Did you install all the CC? My fisherman family.

Most of the houses with fishing have a screenshot outlining the (small) area that's fishable, so it's worth going back and taking a look at the download thread's information for a house if you can't find its fishing spot.

And of course, it's perfectly possible to expand the fishing area by putting down more tiles of it yourself.

I know where the fishing spots are, I've played the hood for 3 years, I was letting smorbie1 know.

So was I. Just quoted you to agree they were small.

You're not stupid, just impatient like many of the rest of us. I know I've done things like this and probably so has everybody else - I see something really cool and want it in my game so badly that I don't stop to read the instructions first. It happens. It does NOT mean that you're stupid. [hugs]

@smorbie1 We don't think you are stupid.

I also recommend lots of one tile cc for Elsewhere because the houses are tiny. A few can be very carefully enlarged but some can't. A number have larger fronts with invisible driveways, removing those can give you more space.
