Default The Sims 1 - Windows 8
I'm not sure where to post this, because i can't find a TS1 help section, but i'm just wondering if anyone else has tried The Sims 1 on Windows 8 and experienced this issue.

First, the game installs fine. The base game installer hangs at 100% for a while but works eventually but it all works apart from that. However, the game is so. darn. slow. Like the little loading bars that appear the first time each EP is run (Like the Unleashed Old Town one or Superstar Studio Town one) take so long and the frame rate is rather low. On Windows 7 on the exact same computer those loading times are almost instant and the frame rate is a solid 60fps. And occasionally the game won't load properly, like the resolution will change but then the game will minimize itself and other times if you alt-tab or minimize it the graphics will appear all corrupted on resuming. I've tried various compatibility modes and it still won't work very well. I'm not sure if anyone knows a fix, but i'm just wondering if anyone else experienced this.

Well I guess it is iether one that the operating system (windows 8) is rubbish or the game just can't handel it.

Have you tried running it in a Windows emulator, ES?

I'm also curious if anyone can install and run sims 1 O.K. on Windows 8? And other people's experiences with windows 8 and sims 1. So far, the little I've heard isn't very encouraging. I'm not sure what a "windows emulator" is?

Just tried SimCity 4, its slow and lags a bit too, but not as much as The Sims 1. Odd, are they on a similar game engine?

i feel like the sims 1 has a problem with any operating system for windows which are windows xp and higher. i would definitely recommend emulation to at least get the game in an operating system which is compatible. this game is from around 1999-2000.

I installed the complete collection on a new windows 7 , 64 bit system and it went off without a hitch. Didn't even have to use compatibility mode, and plays with no problem.

On my older windows vista computer (which has since bit the dust) , I installed the base game and all EP's seperately. I did have to use XP compatibility mode to get that fully installed and working.

There's a good 2 or 3 year period of TS1's life span where XP was thee operating system, so it would be a bit silly for it not to have been made with XP in mind.

TS2 wasn't released till 2004, which was about 3 years after XP was released. Makin' magic was released in 2003. XP is definitely a valid and stable OS for TS1.

I'd say maybe Vista onwards may present problems since these OS's were released long after TS1 came to an end.

I've yet to install Windows 7 so I'm really glad to hear you haven't had any problems with TS1 on it Zorba.

Thanks Chickieteeta. I'm glad too! I know plenty of people do report problems with windows 7 and sims 1 though, in particular sims deluxe or double deluxe, and also it seems to have issues with whether their windows 7 account is set up as administrator with a password and that sort of thing.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
I have both deluxe and the separate discs for the base game and livin large too, so I'll keep that in mind too. I don't think there was anything in deluxe that I'd miss much anyway.

Works fine for me on Windows 7. Just the occasional crash but it loads so much faster and has a much smoother frame rate than it does on Windows 8. Guess it's just a conflict with a too new operating system.

I play on Vista Home Premium - I think it may be running in compatibility mode for XP ??

Anyway its loaded up with custom content and plays fine. I was up playing last night, its still a lot of fun to play.

Yup Sims 1, sims 2, sims 3, sim city 4 and more all work fine on my 64bit windows 8 system also.

Anything such as an installed hang is unlikely to be related to the OS, more the often just a cd issue or a random bug where a reinstall (of the game) should fix it.

Really? I am surprised with sims 1 and 2 working well as they are quite old games. How is it with sims 1 on windows 8 with gameplay?

Maybe the sims 1 finally ran into the issue sim city 4 has with windows 7, where drivers and things now a day are so updated, that these older games cant run right with them causing slow down. I know one of the makers of sim city commented something about new drivers now adays cant run sim city right because the game pings information back and forth, and with new fancy drivers this gets broken and slowed down. The only issue I have with sim city 4 is I have to run it from Software mode because if I run it from hardware the smoke effects and things are broken and weird, plus the random unexpected CTD.

Runs fine for me.

My specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo
8GB Ram
150GB Hard Drive
Windows 7 and 8 dual installed. The Sims is installed for 8, and it works as said.

Hi,

I've just purchased and installed the Sims Complete Collection on a Windows 7 64 bit OS and had no problems at all. The game has been running fine. I also play SimCity 4 and have been able to import my created Sims over into SimCity 4 using the 'mysims' feature in SimCity 4.

I did however install The Sims Complete Collection in Program Files\Maxis\The Sims and not the Program Files (x86) location.

I have windows 8 64 bit and it works perfectly. Are any of you who are experiencing issues playing on a 32bit computer?

Default No problems
I don't have any issues playing on a 32bit pc. When the game gets big it does get slow. I think that might be the graphics card, though. Other than that my gaming experience is fine.

How did you guys even managed to install the game? :o
I've tried to install all of my sims 1 games at my PC but it doesn't work. The autorun thingy doesn't even show up.
I have windows 7 but, since many others can install it at windows 7, can it be some other problem?
