Default Tutorial: Change layering on CAS clothing items
A small explanation how EA has set the layering between tops, bottoms, socks, stockings, shoes etc etc
0x00000008-Accesoires, like necklaces
0x00000007-Tops and Shoes
0x00000006-Hair and Bottoms
0x00000005-Leg covering shoes(like boots)
0x00000004-Socks, gloves and Stockings
0x00000003-Body hair
0x00000002-Make up and Tattoo's
0x00000001-Skin(afface, aftopnaked, afbottomnaked and afshoesnaked)

Keep in mind that some multiple ages can be numbered diffrent.
Make up for both adult and young adult uses 0x00000082 for example while the gloves for teen through elder use just 0x00000004.
Not sure wat the 8 means here.

Edit,
To edit the settings you:
-Open the package with s3PE(works withs 3PE's plugin for TSRW aswell)
-Click the CASp
-Open it with s3PE's grid(bottom button), a popup will appear.
-Edit the Overlaypriority
-Commit
-Save

Why?
*Suppose you want to create a always skintight tucked in T-shirt no matter how high or low a pants is.
When you use the default setting of 07 the shirt will always overrule the pants, but setting it to 05 means that each pants texture will overrule the shirt texture.(Tucked in)
3 users say thanks for this. (Who?)

So this is layering? Whether the top is applied over the pants or vice-versa, etc? Wow, this could be very, very useful. Great discovery!

BTW, 3 is body hair.

Do you mind if I edit your thread title before moving this? I suspect most people would think of opacity as the opposite of transparency, and assume this is about alphas and so on - "layering" might help the right people find this more easily.

What I lack in decorum, I make up for with an absence of tact.

I guess it's like a sort of z-buffer

"You can do refraction by raymarching through the depth buffer" (c. Reddeyfish 2017)

S3PE has been updated a while back, unknown3 is now known as Overlaypriority
Could this be moved to CAS tutorials?

8 is used for accessories like necklaces. Not sure which others.

This is what I've found:

0x000000DC : Markings (including Regional Markings)
0x000000F0 : Body, head, dog and cat tail, ears, horse bodies with blankets, etc.
0x00000104 : Eye color (one of the dog eye colors is 6)
0x00000118 : Antlers, hooves, mane, horse and unicorn tail, unicorn beard
0x0000012C : Collars, bridles, saddles, unicorn horns, other accessories

This deserves a bump as I was recently after this information without know specifically what I was looking for.
I had to work out myself with some information I got from another thread here http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=431935
Also what I don't see mentioned here, but is worth noting, is that the game does seem to save layering order for parts with the same priority.
So if you step bottoms down to the same level as boots, which ever you apply last will be on top, like here.

This appears to persist through outfit changes, and even restarting the game.
