This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, Nightlife, Pets, Seasons, Apartment Life
Default Sims move out and are moved back in to their old houses no matter what
In downtown Strangetown I had two sims who I wanted to get married, but then decided against it. I wanted one of the sims to move out. She did. I tried to move her to a home in the suburbs, but when I went to the family bin she wasn't there. I went to the house I moved her out of and saw a picture of her old bf, but not her. When I visited the lot, she was still standing there with decreased motives, and the game was still continuing like she'd never left. I tried moving other families who were already in the bin into houses and one entire family out of one house into another house with other people, but they all reset when I went back to the neighborhood. I tried turning off all cheat codes, but that doesn't seem to do anything either. I'm using windows 10 and had to download a graphics adjuster to get the game to display correctly, but other than that I don't have any other additions. What should I do?

Added: It's only in Strangetown (the only neighborhood I regularly play- has a fairly large population- more dead than living). People can only permanently move if they're asked to move in to a preexisting household.

Check and see if any of your data files are set to read-only. I understand 8 and 10 do that randomly sometimes. Also, are you running an anti-virus while playing? (Though the effects of that tend to be more random.)

Strangtown- well all premade hoods come already corrupted. I would run Hood checker since it sounds like corruption to me. Your antivirus can cause corruption as well, my old one ate character files so I had to make sure it was turned off anytime I would play.

How do I check my data files? I never knew virus protection could be an issue. It's never been in the past, but I'll try disabling too and see what happens.

I don't have Windows 10, so I can't be specific, but right-clicking a file, or some function of your browser, ought to let you check the Properties, among which will be the Attributes: Read-only, Hidden. If it's marked read-only, no data can be saved. This is a good thing to do to your Sims2 program files; but a bad thing to do to your data files! You should be able to untick the box, but if you can't, you'll need to ask somebody else how to get Administrator privilege to do it.

The anti-virus thing is a problem with old games and other "outdated" programs in general, I believe. New anti-virus programs don't recognize the older programs and generate a false positive for a threat, rather like the dog barking at the mailman, if the dog could shut the mailman down down entirely. Depending on your program, you may be able to whitelist your game files, or you may have to remember to turn the anti-virus off every time you play.

If you use Windows 10, you can just use the antivirus that comes with it (if it is indeed your antivirus, and if you use another one).

You can use Windows Defender, though I wouldn't recommend it - there are plenty of other much more effective, free anti-viruses available.

I never had any problems with that kind of thing until I switched to the Ultimate Collection. Then CCleaner told me there were bad registry errors in Sims 2 and deleted all my .exes. Fortunately repair fixed it.

Is repair still an option on UC? I've tried to find it several times in Origin, but I don't see it. You used to be able to right click and have it show up. I've emailed them several times about this, but have never received a reply. I tried to chat, but the screen wouldn't take my question.

The last time, I just backed up my game and forced new files.

Window protection problem, you need to make your My Doc folder for Sims 2 to be both read and write for windows protection sometimes block the changes made to games and programs that have files in My Doc folder.

What 'Windows Protection' are you referring to?

Sometime windows will lock files from being changed once the program or files get added for the first time.

Windows 10 is bad at this and updates for both windows 7 and 8 had it added about 2-3 years ago.

Sometime you will run into something like this and after all other options have been tried and this by making the file both read and write makes it work again.
I do not have any programming experience at all but it just something I figured out over the years.

So if all else fails then try this and it may work again.

CC cleaners delete some of the dll files that the game needs to run - it is better not to use it if you don't know exactly what to do.

So if you use a Cc cleaner, it may be the root of all evil.

With all respect, I have never encountered any problems at all with UC and Windows 10 and I have been using it for a while now (UC since it was released, Windows 10 since it was released) - after doing the basic things like changing the graphic rules and always run as administrator/ etc.

A repair is like a reinstall, remember - although your game and cc will still be there, you will have to redo graphic rules and perhaps download and install new cc cameras and a CEP copy.

@smorbie1 - I checked - Repair is still an option.

Here is some info on why some people have problems with write protection.

This is just 2 that is easily found about it.

I never have the problem because I build my computers and install Windows with all permission from the start.
A lot of store bought computer have what I posted above.

Nope, I'm still not sure what you're referring to.

If you mean that there is a file lock on a file or folder, then that can be solved by rebooting.

NTFS file permissions have been around for longer than 2-3 years. Any files in the Documents folder will inherit the parent permissions for that user, and it is normal for a file folder to display a blue square next to the read-only attribute.

'All permissions'? What do you mean by that? How do store bought computers vary from yours? The reason that I am questioning you is that I've quite often seen you advise people to turn off UAC or change file permissions, both of which can be detrimental to the security of the operating system, and also probably unnecessary. I just wanted to clarify what you meant in this instance.

@Nysha - I use the professional version of Defender - which you get if you had any professional antivirus before switching to Windows 10 (I had Kaspersky). So I am not sure that any free one would be better, although there may be better professional ones. (Seems to be working well for me anyway).

Hood checked seemed to do it! I had to restart the game twice, but it seemed to snap back after that. Thanks!

I am not able to express myself in this so there for I will leave it as is.
All I can say if all else fails look to permission on the folders.
Only about 10% or less ends up being folder permissions.
Several time over the last 2-4 years folder permissions was the cause of the problems.

Peace.
