Maybe a career object system similar to OFB.

Instead of disappearing into a rabbithole, sims would be directed to objects related to their jobs. A journalist would autonomously drive to the newspaper office because that's where his or her desk is. A surgeon would autonomously drive to the hospital because that's where the operating table is.

I'm thinking a first person life sim would be interesting, actually. Character customization will affect what your character sees in the mirror and visible parts of their body like below their neck. Things would be blurred and censored when it comes to getting dressed or getting it on (that would probably turn into a black screen) so it won't be pornographic.

I think you need to read the whole thread

Hello, It looks like this topic has been left for even longer than the official La-Vida forum . Anyways, I am a big follower of the La-Vida project (which unfortunately rarely gets news). But I found someone who referenced this topic on the Facebook page (which I rarely check, as I don’t like to use Facebook), so I went to my old account on this site to post.

The forum of La-Vida has been very quiet lately. Since December, there have been no new posts other than a topic that I started and recently two spam topics about Nike shoes from a new member that I banned.
I have also sent 4 emails to Mike Hibbert recently in 2014, but I’ve been waiting for a reply for a while now. I remember when I got an email reply from him back in October saying that he’s been off the forum and not developing because he was busy with work recently. That was when this project was starting to get quiet.

I would really appreciate it if any of you signed up for the forum and made some posts. It would be great to get the discussion forum active again, as it has been inactive since December (other than the two deleted Nike topics). There are some unreplied topics; such as my “"Sequence Tool" concept which I believe could be a big thing in the game.

La Vida could be great for this community when it reaches a playable product. I remember when I used to play Sims 3 often, and I could see that the mod-makers on this website struggled to figure-out how to add custom-animated actions to the game. Being open-source, we wouldn’t have to waste our time figuring that out to mod La-Vida. I am no longer interested in the Sims 4, as I think of La-Vida as the real Sims 3 successor.

Mike Hibbert has been away from some time now. But it could be good to have some ideas written on the forum waiting for him when he gets back. I have more topics that I want to post myself, but I’ve been waiting for my previous topics to get replies first.

Seems like a bit of a waste to up and jump ship to a boat that's pretty much sinking. People should have been trying to get this movement happening a while ago. As of right now, it's looking bleak, but if things turn around, you know where to find us.

I wish you luck, but I do not think you will be able to reach the goal. I 100% agree with HP, the game looks way to old for 2014. I understand you are still developing, but I am just not very impressed. =/

Hi All!

I have good/bad news! (depends on how you look at it!)

I've resurrected La Vida and I've been doing some development to get it ship shape!

This time though I'm only going to be doing it in my spare time and I have no goals to do a Kickstarter so there is no rush to get things off the ground this time. I'm simply going to go at my own pace and all I'm really here on this forum for is to ask for your input in making the game something that you'd like to play

I'll be taking a few days to re-read this thread and gather the comments and ideas already on here but feel free to add any thoughts or ideas you might have and I'll do my best to include them if the seem sensible and add to the enjoyment.

Going forward I'm not going to make a separate forum but you are welcome to come over to our facebook page (http://fb.me/lavidagame) were I'll be posting weekly videos to show progress.

There are already a few on there to show the current state of the game.

Let me know your thougths!

I figured that making it look the same as the sims would just be asking for trouble and also, its not going to be a like for like copy of sims so it think it should send that message too!

Yeah I remember this.
I honestly think that it is too much for one man to undertake. Even if it was your full-time hobby and you had no job, to code a sims style game to at least an acceptable level of quality, would take many many years. I wager that sims 6 is released before LaVida comes out. Don't get me wrong, for a one-man team, it is impressive as an insight to what can be created by someone other than EA. Much kudos and I'm pleased to see indie development reach these new levels.
But, I just think, Mike Hibbert can't complete it, it's too much work for one person.

I guess my other sims game will just have to be Habbo Hotel forever......

Looks quite promising!

IMO:

- You need to layout a plan of approach to this project. A life simulator is a highly complex game
- You should focus on setting up the systems that run behind the game (I.e. AI, open world, building system)
- Unity is actually a decent engine
- Don't focus on creating graphical elements until later on, as you can buy some or crowdsource from the community. TS3 was a 2D game until the systems were worked out!
- Make the game moddable. It's hard for one programmer to make a highly complex and polished game like Maxis did (with their larger teams)- but if the core of the game is good, the community will mod the game to perfection
- See if you can ask some of the older TS2 developers for their input!
- See if you can ask some of the gameplay modders here for their imput! (I.e. Simmythesims, zerbu, Twallian if you can find him)
- Most importantly... play the sims series to see what's elements work best and plan your approach and systems.

Good luck!
