This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Does my game have SecuROM?
I don't know what category to put this in, sorry.. Hopefully I put it in the right thread though?

Anyway, today I read a few threads from 2016/2017 about SecuROM...

I got my version of UC in 2015 (I think) for free from EA and re-installed it after upgrading my computer before New Years' 2018. I was wondering if I have SecuROM on my computer now. I rarely use the DVD thing that plays DVD and installs Disks etc so I can't say if anything is acting weirdly with that. I also read that The Sims 2 build/buy was apparently slow when players had SecuROM on their PC but mine loads fast (unless I deleted thumbnails recently). I'm hoping this is a good sign that I don't have SecuROM on my PC. Any help would be appreciated to ease my anxiety of potentially ruining my new-ish PC with SecuROM...

Thanks!

Hmm... do you have Windows? Because you can answer the question yourself by opening "run.exe" (just search for it in the search bar, it's on your computer somewhere) and enter "regedit.exe". Once it opens, click on the edit tab, and one of the options should be "find". Click on it and enter "SecuRom" (don't have the match case box checked). Wait a few minutes for Windows to sift through your files. It will soon take you to the first result or tell you it can't find anything. If it finds something, I'm so sorry, you've got SecuROM! Yay...(?) Go here if you want to learn how to remove it:

I did what you said and it said "finished searching through registry" and the whole thing is still blank. Is this a good thing?

Older versions of the UC had some mild form of suckyrom.

So if I re-downloaded my UC before 2018 I'm fine?
I re-installed probably around the 20th December - sometime around that.

Once it's on your computer it's on there until you remove it.

I upgraded my computer meaning everything was wiped off it before the New Year.
I re-installed my UC game after my computer was upgraded but I don't know if the new update happened before New Year or some time during this year..

I did what @Airazor65 suggested and it came up blank after saying "finished searching through registry" - I don't know what that means..

The bad SecuROM came on the disk and downloaded versions of the Sims 2.

A version of SecuROM that did not hurt your computer like the disk and downloaded version came with UC but now they may have moved on to a different way and have gotten rid of SecuROM.

With that being said SecuROM has been hated on since we found out about it and still hate it today.

So I'm assuming I'm safe? Thanks for the reassurance. I've heard so much about SecuROM and got a little worried about it. So thank you for clearing it up for me.

The Ultimate Collection was patched in November 2017 to remove SecuRom completely in order to make it more compatible with Windows 10 (which does not support such types of copy protection). If you downloaded and installed your copy of the Ultimate Collection after that date, you should not have to worry about SecuRom.

Note that this will NOT remove SecuRom from a computer that already has it, just from Sims 2 Ultimate Collection.

This patch did make Ultimate Collection require Origin to run. I think some people came up with a workaround for that.

So even if my computer was taken apart and had new parts put in such as CPU, Memory and Graphic Card (Windows etc had to be re-installed with everything else) I might have SecuROM? Did I read that right? I had my computer upgraded before Christmas as a birthday present and had to re-install everything, including Windows.

Thanks for the links, I'll read them for more information about this SecuROM everyone dislikes. :D

If you reinstalled Windows and your computer was effectively "new" - and you then installed Sims 2 Ultimate Collection AFTER November 2017, you should not have SecuRom on your system (I think).

Okay, so I'm good then since I got my computer upgraded in December 2017 for my birthday.

Thank you so much! I can calm down now. :p
