Why did they get rid of the old Sims 2 website anyways? Was it because of budget problems or they were just to cheap to keep it running? I wished that I knew about the site back then and made an account so I could save all the good content uploaded there but then I was 11-13 years at the time so isn't much I can do.

Well I guess we better start archiving the good content of Sims 3 website while we still can. I bet the Sims 3 website would go the same way of the old Sims 1 and 2 sites very soon. I may be too young to young to save the content of the old Sims 2 sites but at least I have an opportunity to save the legacy of the Sims 3 before EA shuts it down for good.

Not sure. TS4 is out since a while, and the sims 3 store is still up.

We can't be too sure though. We don't know when the Sims 3 site would suffer the same fate of the other Sims sites and it's better to be safe than sorry but hopefully that wouldn't be until a long time from now.

EA made a big mistake in getting rid of the Sims 2 Store because they wanted to push everyone over to Sims 3 but it did not work out the way they wanted it to.
EA lost a lot of money by getting rid of the Sims 2 Store.

Even today EA could still be making money on the Sims 2 but nope they made the wrong decision way back then.

Oh well that's their loss that they're too blind to see the potential revenue in keeping the site open. At least we still have a good community of Sims 2 modders and content creators banding together to bring the Sims 2 community better content then the exchange ever had. Though i'm wondering what happened to all the old content creator who used to create content for the exchange, did they upload their old creations on to other sites or gave up making content for Sims 2 or Sims after they found out that the site along with their creations are gone in a snap of a finger?

EA wants this pic to go by-by. (It came out in 2006 if I remember right.)

Now there only claiming 175 mil total sold of all Sims games, 1, 2, 3 and 4.

EA overestimated the popularity that TS3 would have. They assumed that most players would simply move on to the new shiny and never look back. And, granted, a lot of them did move to TS3...but then a lot of those folks came back to TS2, sooner or later.

That being said, I'm not sure why people would want the stuff that was on the Exchange. Much of it was crappy and/or would now look very crappy with modern graphics and whatnot. Also, a lot of it was broken and some of it could even damage your game/neighborhoods. Like downloading occupied lots, for instance. Look around on the internet -- the Sims 2 community is very active on Tumblr, for instance -- and you'll find much better stuff being put out every single day. Sims, lots, CAS stuff, Build/buy stuff, mods, neighborhood deco, everything. Hell, you could find better stuff on T$R, back in the day. :p

I'm mostly found on (and mostly upload to) Tumblr these days because, alas, there are only 24 hours in a day.

I did that - I downloaded one of those occupied lots around 2006 somewhere. The game crashed almost immediately and I never downloaded anything for the game again until I joined MTS

Fair point but I still wish that I at least had the chance to visit back in the day but you're right people are making more quality content now then they had back when the site was online.
