Default Sims Need a Six-Month Vacation Twice a Year Just Like Us... Right?
So a few months back, there was a flurry of love and hate for different EPs (mostly focused on Pets, as I recall ). Oddly enough though, there wasn't much attention given one way or the other to Bon Voyage... and there isn't much on the rest of the site either! Not many uploads, precious few discussions, even when it comes to stories (vacations are where most REAL people get their stories, right?) BV scarcely gets a wink! Well, I think it's time to try to change that!

So, let's do this- any ideas of any sort you have for TS2 vacations, throw them here! Got an idea for how to make a brand-new vacation destination your Sims will never forget? Post it here! Inspiration for a community lot or a hotel to make the tropics even more inviting? Type away! An idea on what would make the Far East even more Far-East-y or the mountains even more mountainous? Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the place you've been looking for! And... Bon Voyage!

Now that I think about it, a city type vacation destination would be interesting. I know that we already have downtown from Nightlife, but not all real life neighborhoods have a downtown and people do vacation in cities. Maybe someone could set Downtown as a vacation destination with a new name and some motels or something, if they didn't want to build an entirely new destination.

That was not helpful, funny, or love!

I've always thought that there needs to be skiing. I mean, they have a "mountain" vacation destination, but it lacks the activity that a lot of people go to the mountains to do. Even if it was only offered as a tour (preferably longer than a standard tour, to represent doing it all day) with a "Went skiing" memory and appropriate chance cards, that would be something. In fact, just new/added tours in general would be nice, if such a thing is possible.

Also, I always thought cruise vacations would be fun. Probably because I like going on cruises in real life. In the game, I guess the "ship" could be the actual destination, maybe made up of multiple "lots" with different things to do -- restaurant, casino, a "deck" with a pool, etc. -- but the "tours" could be ports-of-call and would change each day, with different possibilities available, like the shore excursions you can take when you're on a cruise, if you don't feel like just bumming around and doing your own thing in port. Not that you could really do this in-game very well. To make a custom vacation destination, you're still stuck with the three types the game offers. Plus, you wouldn't have "locals" on a cruise ship. But hey, a girl can dream, right?

I'm mostly found on (and mostly upload to) Tumblr these days because, alas, there are only 24 hours in a day.

what about a holiday village in the mountains, you could set the seasons to winter year round (or summer in the southern hemisphere) and use stuff from happy Holiday stuff, or CC to make the celebration of your chose, whether it be Christmas, Hanukkah, other real life holidays i'm forgetting, any thing of your creation, grilled cheese worship eve anyone, maybe lawn gnome theft party night, or plastic flamingo pool party day.

the best of this would be it is already doable with what's in game and wouldn't need an entire new type of destination to be made, at least for a Christmas village anyway, but how it's set up is entirely up to you.

for mods, as icad already mentioned, skiing is something that many people want, and amusement parks are another thing that would be popular, good thing some rides exist on this site and work so that's done.

the arctic would an interesting destination with tours to see polar bears and other wild life.
what if there was an prehistoric destination with dinosaurs that could end up with t rexs eating sims like the cowplant does, only without the milk in return.

have a duck the game should have duck ponds they would be nice :

Some, maybe all rides do produce an NPC so if you do download it don't remove it.

What about a seaside town that's not a tropical island, like Atlantic City or Brighton? You'd have a boardwalk and a little amusement park and somewhere to fish and you'd stay in a boarding house or a bed & breakfast.

This is a really great idea! Don't know why no one thought about it before. Probably because everyone has the notion that vacationing isn't done in cities, but in completely different (scarce) environments.

I don't see why we need to change the name, just keep it as it is, especially since my neighborhood doesn't have a DT attached, because that would mean adding a whole bunch of new sims to an already overpopulated neighborhood.

My dream vacation destination is London, but then again I'm incredibly stubborn to doing what is popular in society so that will speak for itself.

I never do the vacation hoods due to it being hardwired into my brains that a vacation needs to match up to the vacation days a sim has and those are incredibly slow to accumulate.

Byw the title of this thread is suppose to be 6 weeks a year right not months? Because i don't know a whole lot of people who can vacation for 6 months 2 times a year which would nbe the entire year and still retain their job

Two destinations I was thinking of -

European village
-bike paths
-bed n breakfasts
-quaint boutiques
-cafes
-impressive gardens and fountains

Morocco/Casablanca-esque (Masnions and Gardens has a 'morrocan' build style specifically for this)
-Bubble hookah bar
-all sand beach
-hotel villas
-spice market
-luxery pool hotel
-tour a ruin that looks like this

Uh oh! My social bar is low - that's why I posted today.

Kind of in a similar vein, I wonder how well a Mediterranean vacation destination would work... like a Greek island or a section of the French Riviera. I may have to steer my latest neighborhood project in a new direction to try this out! I'm thinking... the Spanish and the Greeks both founded colonies on either side of a Mediterranean island, and while its history has been fraught with conflict (maybe in my Sim-universe the Spanish and the Greeks were the two major sea-powers of the 1700s, instead of France and England), today it's rich mix of cultures provides a brilliant and unique vacation destination for Sims from all across the globe...

Yeah, I think this is gonna be where my next project goes... Mediterranean and Tropical are basically the same, right?

I like the downtown destination, not so much that I would go, but I do live in a large city that relies on tourism.

Some places I thought of - In the mountains - old forts, Native American Reservations like Cherokee, NC, skiing, snowboarding, or even sledding, and hunting. An exotic destination with ruins like Charmful suggested, deep sea fishing, and something Scary Rob suggested in another thread, big game hunting.

I've also thought how cool it would be to have like a time share vacation homes where a bunch of sims pay ahead of time for the same home, and if for some reason a sims couldn't make it on his designated time, he would lose his vacation at that time. Or even where sims could trade homes with a local for the same time to keep down the cost of the vacation.

I love sending mine to Takemizu Village. I usually never send my Sims on vacation - just because I stupidly sold BV to my friend when I no-longer needed the disk (stupidly thinking "I'll never uninstall Sims so I wont need it again now that I have the Free time disk") and never got round to re-buying it, so when I got it with UC I just keep forgetting, but then Olive Specter started rolling wants to go on holiday to Takemizu Village I decided to let her. It was actually super fun, and different to normal gameplay so since then I've sent a few other Sims on holiday (The Travellers, Cyd Rosland and another family but I can't remember who).

A city holiday would be quite interesting, I would also enjoy making a town based off my town (It's a seaside town with lots of tourism in the summer) . I've never tried to make my own vacation spot because I'm scared I won't know what to do like putting those hidden lots and stuff down, and I don't know how to make locals have certain gestures and such. So for now, I'll just stick to adventuring the vacation places I have now.

I like Bon Voyage, but it's just the fact that almost every other EP for The Sims 2 is really, really good and Bon Voyage has a hard time competing against them.
But I like to send them on vacations, even though they are not always that fun.

FYI, Maxis can let you have Far East, Mountain, or Island vacation worlds. Everyone would just be walking around in tribal wear in a city like that.

In a custom vacation hood, the locals all wear ordinary clothes. So a custom city destination would not have out-of-place locals.

I've been detailing in the back of my mind, new vacation hoods for awhile now:

- Alpinlodge: a mountain resort set at Winter year round. Opportunities for hiking, cuddling by the fire, ice-skating, snowball fights and snowman building!
- ?: a far east city that is fast-paced and technologically advanced - sims are so busy staring at their screens, they wouldn't even notice a ninja popping by.
- Crescent Island: a cruise for the rich and mostly elderly. Just watch out for the pirates....
- ?: a spring break island specialty with gambling and boozing galore! Bars, beaches and babes.

I love BV
it was the first ep i ever had and i guess in a way, i appreciate it alot more than the other eps.
i love the furniture, the themes and clothes it was pretty unique.
my fav things were the spa elements, and the log cabin siding
favorite spot for my sim is the mountain vacation since i go to Tennessee & West Virginia at least once a year for vacation myself.
I wish there was a hunting tour in the game....and more camo furniture/deco (but CC easily solved that problem for me! )

A middle eastern vacation spot sounds nice
and as mentioned above a beachside vacation, like New England beach towns, very cool idea I feel inspired now

Pre-made locals in the shipped vacation destinations have themed clothing. Hula-style in Twikki, kimonos in Takemizu, plaid in Three Lakes. If you use empty templates, they wouldn't spawn with those specific clothing-styles. Basically, locals that spawn will have random clothes like any other spawned townie, so a custom vacation destination would not end up with locals in hula or kimonos.

I assume that's what you meant with "define". I'd try to define your define a bit more in the future.

I'd love to build a "theme park" vacation destination one day. I have so many ideas for it but so little patience for building! :-D I'd make the whole 'hood one massive theme park with different community lots and hotels representing different parts of the theme park. Some of them would have themes, like historical periods (not sure which ones), different places/climates and other things. There would be museum-type lots (fun ones!), a zoo and lots of lots using Echo's carnival stuff. I'd like it to be a bit like Orlando, Florida rather than just one specific theme park - so with a Disney World, Busch Gardens, Epcot Centre, Seaworld and many more. I'd probably make it as a Far East destination, as I rarely attach a Far East destination to my 'hoods, but I would have custom locals (wearing normal clothing or a theme park "uniform" of some kind, or perhaps animal/cartoon character costumes like at Disney World) and I would make sure that they didn't know (and pass on) the gesture/Tai Chi etc.

I think I'd really enjoy playing it, but I doubt I'll ever have the patience to build it :-(

I adore bon voyage and it's probably my favourite ep. I love all the vacation destinations but Twikkii Island is the one I tend to use the most because I feel it's the most typical holiday most of my sim families would enjoy to go on. But like I said, I really think they did a great job creating three distinct neighbourhood types with their own unique charms. My favourite thing to do is have a sim's family become really accustomed to the culture of one of the vacation destinations and have them save up to get a vacation home, and learn all about that place.

I agree about the skiing-type vacation - I don't really feel like it's missing, but it would have been a nice addition to see some snow in the mountains - but then I suppose there might be issues for people who have BV but not seasons. If I remember correctly skiing was in The Sims Vacation, so that would've been a nice link.
