Default upside down face plague
Did anyone ever find the cure for the plague that would change the character thumbnails to clown faces and make them upside down? That creeped me out so much.

It's due to character file corruption. MilleniumSims used to have something that could fix it, in conjunction with Iff Pencil. But they are no longer around anymore.

Apparently exporting and reimporting the sim can work in some cases. Don't really know of much more, since it never happened to me.

It's scary, creepy, a somewhat intriguing, but,as Dorsal Axe pointed out, it's a sign of corruption. Here's an article from the wiki about it: http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Upside-down_face_plague

Thanks. I haven't played the game in years and was just wondering. Before Sims 2 came out, I had reached the point where I no longer tried to save families because of the plague. It's strange. I played a totally vanilla game, never downloaded or even heard of cc for sims I. I reinstalled multiple times. Oh well, it's all in the past now. Thanks for answering. That was the creepiest thing.

You'll need IFF Pencil to fix it, it's kinda hard to find now so I uploaded it here, hopefully you'll get it working on whatever OS you have. Back up the folder before you start so that you can go through everything again in case you make a mistake.

1. Open up the UserData\Characters folder in your neighbourhood files. Sort them by size and see if any of them are big, the corrupted ones are usually kinda huge compared to the rest 'cause they have junk in them. The bigger the file, the more suspect it's going to be.

2. Open up your first suspect in IFF Pencil 2. It'll have their name in it so you have a clue, like this -

3. If the character is corrupted there'll be junk symbols above the "all resources" bit I've circled in the pic below (I don't have a corrupt file to show you, sorry). If your file is broken then the junk always shows up there, listed above all resources so you'll know it's bad.

4. Click on the junk and there should be other stuff showing up in the right-hand section, where you saw Bella's name before. Select each listing in the right-hand section, then right click and delete whatever is listed there. Don't delete anything below "all resources" like I'm showing you here, that's just because I don't have any duff files to share for pics!

If there are lots of listings on the left above all resources then you'll have to click them all and delete whatever's on the right.

5. Save, repeat for any other suspects, then check the game and hopefully everything's ok. If not, you'll have to replace the files with your back-ups and try going through them all again and hopefully it'll work... eventually. :)
