Default Sims 4 skins!
I would LOVE to start creating custom skins and skintones for the Sims 4 -- I have basic knowledge of photoshop and the like. The only problem is I have no clue where the default "skin" files are located, so I can't nab them, make copies, start editing, ect ect. Any help would be appreciated! I know it's a recent release, so it'll be a while before a crapton of CC comes out, but I'm so excited to begin making my own (- A-)/ Thanks!

Edit: I have looked at the Sims 4 CC threads, but I've been unable to find anything relating to creation of skins/skintones specifically; it could be that I'm missing something! If I have, I'd be most grateful if you could point it out. Thanks again!!

From what I have found, working on a default skin for myself, the skin files are in the clientfullbuild6, clientfullbuild7 & clientfullbuild8 packages. I don't know if all of them are required to make a default skin, but you do seem to need files from all three packages.

I have found many white skin details like eyes, nose, lips and so on. I think it is used as some kind of overlay regarding which face archetype you choose. The same goes with fit and fat textures of the body.

I think this is interesting. I try to convert some of them as "skin details" (like freckles) so you can have the overlay with different archetypes. I will see how it is working and how it looks.

Natural lip makeup could be very cool too.

I went trough the packages again, and I think I found all of the body textures... Once again, I'm not sure if all of these are actually part of the skin, but it might save people the trouble of having to dig trough the packages in s4pe looking for them. (I think this package could also be used to create default replacement body textures, as all the instances and stuff were left intact.)

I also added a package that includes some files I believe to be the skin tones. Not all of the tones are included because I lost track of what I was doing and didn't feel like digging trough the packages again. However, they could be used to create default replacement tones or work as an example to create new tones, once it gets figured out how to do that.

I hope these save people some trouble.

Default :) ♥
I can't wait for skin mods to come out and hopefully completely custom hairstyles as well (as in new meshes) , or maybe imports from the Sims 3 hair mods. I don't like the cartoon-styled hairstyles much in the Sims 4 but I still am loving the game. Thank you for the files too, I may try modding as well maybe. ^^

There's so many skins and skin overlays out there already. Its not really something new or something to wait for. I'm just waiting for tutorials on how to go about it to come out.

@Taiju: just make a greyscale skin, clone a skin detail, replace the DDS. Sadly the muscle textures gets overlayed if you do a skin detail for the whole body. I made 2 custom skin details which only affect the face (so they msucle sliders works) check them on my blog. You maybe download them, clone the packages, export my DDS files so you dont need to male an alpha layer that only affects the face and blends out on the body. Take a look at the files, make your own greyscale skin and import your DDS files to your cloned package. Have fun

I'm in search for skin recolor tutorials, but I can't find any. I really want to make a new skin color

(like this one)

Seems like most skins for TS4 are skin details, not new colors/tones. Though I've seen some people making new colors and skintones, I'm just curious how they did that. Anyone who have a clue?

I've been trying out some stuff myself, but I can't figure out how it's done. Would be thankfull for all help!

I've looked and haven't found any custom default replacement body skin textures out there. There's some done as skin details, but they'd prevent the muscles/fat/thin effects from showing up as Trap Lorde mentioned.

It can be done, though. I have a list below of the TGIs for the teen-elder male body skins. There's one 'neutral' texture for each age and one texture for each age/each morph that phases in and replaces it as the slider is moved.

Base/neutral:

Clearly, making a default replacement will involve modifying a lot of textures.

So far no luck finding the basic face texture. Maybe someone out there knows. And I'll be moving on to find the female body textures - it involves using test skins and trial and error so it takes some time.

Also thanks for this people! For sims 3 it was a bit easier to actually extract the textures to get a dds (for the whole body with the exception of the face), then we'd edit it in our favorite 3d drawing program, and we could convert it back to package.
Tried doing that but only for private use.
So when its a bit easier to do this for the sims 4 i will give it a shot myself. Hopefully some whizzkid invents a tool that makes it easier, and the time needed shorter, for what it is now.

Nevertheless thank you!

This is what I've come across: http://mysims4blog.blogspot.no/2014...-by-taty86.html

And unlike other skintone/skindetails I've seen which are gray scales, these are colored in S4PE

When I've tried to make colored skins as skin details, It only appears as a matt dark brown one, even though it was cyan in S4PE.

I've made a default replacement skin using the textures provided by pahtrick. It's adult so search "Lover's Lab" to find it. It's under Other Games / Adult Gaming / Simlab. My only problem is that there are way too many textures . . . now I have to figure out which of the 50 female textures that didn't have clothing lines that I actually need so I can remove the rest to pare down the file size LOL.

Also if one is making a skin detail based overlay all one has to do to not mess with the sliders is to ensure that the alpha channel of the DDS is transparent for everything but the features you wish to add.

Elerneron, That's something I'm trying to figure out as I'm typing this. I assume the female body would use about the same amount of textures as the male body, maybe a little more because of pregnant textures. It's going to take some time though, as the only sure way, that I know of, to figure this out is to mark all the textures and import them into the game one by one to see which ones are needed and which ones are not.

I found the male skins in an hour or two by making a set of 8 images with a number on them, replacing the skins 8 at a time, and testing in CAS. No reason to do it one at a time or to modify each texture.

Yeah, I figured that would work too... I'm now doing something similar. I have all the female textures from fulbuild6 in a package with a number on them and then see which numbers show up in CAS.

Here is the list so far. Going to check ingame to see if there are special pregnant textures.

@rosahege: which skin detail did you clone your colored skin from?
I’m asking because I’ve been working on some face overlays as well and accidentally noticed that depending on which detail I clone them from, they appear to behave differently.
Just for clarification and so you can get a picture: my DDS texture is grayscale (rather on the light side), the alpha is pretty much a white blob that fades out.
If I use this texture as replacement for the crease detail, the overlay is completely opaque (default skin details like the crease in the chin or the lacking eyelid of asian eyes are lost for example), but seems to work similar to a layer in overlay mode, i.e. where the texture is white the skin is brightened, where it’s black it darkens (severely).
If, however, I use it as replacement for the mole detail (not sure which one, though probably both), the texture appears not only completely opaque, but also the colors are taken exactly the way they are in the texture, i.e. my sims face is completely white with some gray streaks where „shadows“ were put.
I have only found out by accident and not tested this further - so I can't guarantee this absolutely has to reproduce - but perhaps this may solve your problem. Also hope the above is understandable – english is not my native language and I especially have trouble with explaining things like these. (Once I’m back home I can upload a few screens to show what I mean).

I tested too and my female skin list seems to agree with yours. I suspect there are also four pregnant textures, and what may be three pregnant textures for males. So a really complete skin set for adults would include 24 skins for females and 23 for males. Assuming we haven't missed anything.

The skin details overlay totaly works! I tried it. Wow. I will do them now and upload them soon.
I cloned the crease and it behaves how i want. The skin color is the same as it should be just the details are changed.

I will try to mix and match them.

I thought those were for pregnant too, but I've been testing in game and the textures don't seem to change during pregnancy. Neither in second and third trimester. (Only tested with an adult Bella Goth though.) So I have no idea what those files could be for.

Did find the child textures though.

To me they look exactly the same, however after testing in game they appear to be the base and the fat skin textures for children.

Good that the pregnant-looking textures don't seem to be used; 20 textures per adult gender is an awful lot without them.

And thanks for the packages and the child textures. I saw one that looked like a baby skin in your previous upload too.

Maybe you should post in the tutorial section with the skin texture packages and the lists of TGIs, so people have an easy-to-find resource and reference for making default replacements.
