This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Windows Update Made Sims 2 Unplayable
So last week I was able to play Sims 2 on my laptop on max graphics and a million downloads just fine with zero lag. Everything was 100% fine. I should note that I only play the Base Game.
But anyway, on Sunday when I turned on my laptop a Windows update simply started installing without my consent. I was like, whatever, I'll do something else meanwhile.
After like an hour it finished installing and I was able to use my computer. The first thing I did was start Sims 2. Everything was just fine, loading screen took like 15 seconds, nhood loading took like 10, and the neighborhood was fine, with no lag (the joys of only having the Base Game). Lot loading screen took the same. But as soon as I entered ANY lot, the amount of lag was unbearable. Nothing like it was before.
All of my other games are just fine. I play Bully and Sims 3, and these were the same as they were before, no lag.
Things I've already tried and didn't work:
- Deleting my groups.cache;
- Removing my entire downloads folder;
- Doing a vanilla Reinstall and testing that;
Here are my specs. Yeah, i have an intel chipset and not an actual video card, but I simply can't afford a freaking gaming computer right now. Plus the game was working just fine until the windows update and my other games have not had any problems, so I don't think it's that.
I didn't know what to copy so I just copied everything that had to do with "video":

Which version of Windoze and are you sure it did not also do a video drivers update because that's what it sounds like?

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.
I'm here on tumblr and my site, tflc

I think I have found a solution for you!

Follow these instructions, and it should work like new.

UGH. I'm having this same issue. Haven't used this particular computer for a while, and when I turned it on the update installed just like you said, without asking me or obtaining my consent. And now, my Sims 2 game won't play without lag. Tried the above, didn't work. Going to do some general troubleshooting and compatibility stuff, but I don't have much faith. I really don't want to roll my Windows back, but I might have to seeing as this computer serves mainly for playing games, and the game I play most often is TS2. Crumbug.

I was actually warned by Windows that some stuff on my pc would stop working if I installed the thing.
So I chose not to.

Interestingly enough, it seems to have picked up some older music files. (Saying they are working on a resolution).

@althyastar - do I understand you correctly - your game, although lagging, does work?

It could be a number of things.

Is your processor a multicore? You can force the game to only use one core which can help.

Lenovo computers are a bit notorious for breaking with Windows updates. Several of them (including ours) completely conked out with Windows 8.1, which was frustrating. My husband turned it into a Chromebook for a while and then had a spare Windows 10 licence so used that (you can't upgrade from Windows 8.0, but the 8.1 update didn't work either!) I don't play Sims on that machine though.

I use the sims as a psychology simulator...

So I backed up the music files and allowed the update to install - the game runs fine. I think it may be faster than before the update, to be honest! So perhaps you may find a solution in this thread here : http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=582278

Try the link in my post #8 above. Perhaps taking some or all of those steps may help you.

I did try it, no such luck. Now it crashes after loading.

I know this isn't too terribly helpful at this stage, but awhile ago I installed the anniversary update and found that TS2 wouldn't boot up at all. I kept getting a message saying that either the game isn't installed or that some files were missing. I couldn't even run the uninstaller to reinstall the game, so I just rolled back the update. The game worked fine after that. Guessing Microsoft broke something with the update, much like EA often broke stuff with their updates.

Hi, could I ask how you did this for the latest update? All the instructions I've found have been for earlier versions of Windows 10 and not really applicable, and I really don't want to screw anything up!

Try some troubleshooting first - after the update, I had to that - it installed new drivers. Maybe that will help. Do a hardware troubleshoot first from the control panel.

Think I went into Settings, Update & Security, and then Recovery. You can only rollback an update within a month of upgrading though.

Okay, thank you! It didn't mess anything up for you? No files were lost etc.?

No, your files should be fine. Well, to be frank, I only tested the anniversary update for a few hours, then got disappointed to see TS2 didn't work, so I rolled it back the same day I updated.

I'm having a similar problem. Windows automatically updated without asking two days ago. When I went to play TS2 I noticed that every time I'd move the camera the screen would become sort of jerky/choppy and blurry and slow. It's sort of subtle, but it's enough that it hurts my eyes. I thought maybe I needed to update my nvidia drivers to work with the new version of windows, but after doing that things got worse. I had screen tearing and the smooth edges option was greyed out. So I rolled back the drivers and it went back to just jerky/slow camera movement. I then rolled back to the previous version of windows 10 that I had, thinking that would fix it, but it's still the same. I'm baffled.

Hey guys, sorry for the 2 month long delay lol
I solved my problem by doing a rollback to the previous update, and since then my game has been fine, even after some other updates came in
