I mean, for me, that is the full path: look up the GUID, find the group number, and then open the group. I'm not sure I understand what's more clear about showing the object workshop, and it probably takes longer to load that way.

Kidding? The search function with SimAntics is far slower than object workshop for me. The SimAntics search typically takes ~3 minutes to complete for me. Where as object workshop is near instant. (Yes, this is on an M.2 before you say it).

Either way, it doesn't matter I still found what I was looking for. I see no point arguing over this and it's off topic anyway. I am done talking about this particular discovery.

To each their own, as long as it works.

Photobooth pix cost $10. I can't track numbers so I knew they cost something, but I never knew how much. Till I took a couple that was down to its last simoleon on a date, and one of them wanted to take a picture together, but the only option they got was woohoo. So I took them to a place where they could play music for tips, got them up to $32, tried again, got the option, took the picture, and then they were down to $22.

That seems like a lot for photobooth pics. The last time I took one in a real booth it was maybe $0.75 for a strip of four?

I am pretty sure it was about €7-9 last time I used one, which was probably about 10 years ago. Since passport photos can now be created using a phone camera and an app, or simply submitted digitally online, I haven't seen a need for one. And I haven't come across one which takes four separate photos for a very long time. I found one in around 2004 and I remember being very excited because it was a novelty then. Most photobooths that were around at that time simply spat out four identical pictures, which I thought was very boring and not worth paying for (except that you did need to do it for passport photos then).

Actually, there was one of the four-separate-photos one set up at a wedding I went to in 2019 That was fun, and since we as guests didn't have to pay for the photos, we all used it quite a bit. I feel like there would be a decent market for the old fashioned, pocket money priced four-separate-photo type in places where teens and young people hang out. Even though they all have smartphones, there is a certain retro charm which would be appealing, I think.

I never even considered taking an official photo with a photo booth. XD When I've needed one (Student ID, Driver's Licence) they always took the photo when you went to apply for the card.

The thing about photobooth pictures was you got them right away and they were the right size to cut up and stick in your wallets. I don't remember anyone going in and taking a photo by themselves, and even the couples photos for people on dates were rare compared to the whole friend group piling in and taking enough photos to share around.

I bet Kids Today don't even stick photos in their wallets anymore. Sigh.

I bet kids today don't even have wallets, bearing in mind smartphones have contactless payments now, and many kids don't use cash. So, why use a wallet when your phone can make all your payments?

When Google Pay (paying with your phone) became a thing, I went to a bakery and asked to pay with my phone. The cashier seemed very defensive, "Aren't you scared someone is going to steal your phone and charge you all sorts of nonsense?" she asked. "I would be vary using this new technology... where is this world going? Paying with your phone, are you mad?" she shook her head in disproval while setting up the payment terminal. I simply replied, "I'll notice I'm missing my phone much sooner than if I drop my wallet somewhere."

Roughly 6 years or so later, I'm at an amusement park in Germany. The weather's chilly, and I'm keeping my wallet in my jacket in a zipped pocket. Sometimes, I have to readjust my wallet in the pocket when I take a ride, because some security straps were pushing against my wallet and making me uncomfortable. Plus, I stick my hands in my pockets every now and then because the wind's blowing and my hands are cold (when I'm off the rides, that is).

The last time I touched my wallet was 4 rides ago. I'm in line for my last one for the day. I stick my hands in my pockets and what do I find? Well, not my wallet, that's for sure. And my plane leaves tomorrow.

My phone managed to save my ass. I used it to buy tickets to the nearest city with my country's embassy, to pay the fees for issuing the temporary documents for the border control, and to pay for my sandwich while I was waiting for the documents. The only thing I've lost is time and some money for administration - I had maybe 12 cents in my wallet altogether, and no dear photos or memories. Just (now defunct and worthless) plastic with numbers on it. The photos are safe and sound on my phone, and the phone is, well, pretty much always in my hands.

The wallet, holding the equivalent power of payment and ID for the people of the older generation, is just a nuisance that I have to carry because some places don't accept the picture on my phone screen just yet.

=======

Also... the loss of my wallet made me consider getting a passport as my traveling document. Travel within the EU is made possible just by using one's own country-issued ID card, or by passport. Having to carry a physical ID with me at all times, it makes sense to have your passport stored in a safe at the place of your stay, instead of in your pocket where it can fly out while riding a rollercoaster.

SimAntics resource finder is slow if you're doing something like searching the entire file for a object or BHAV name like you're doing in the one screenshot, but if you're searching for a GUID or an NREF, it's usually pretty quick. With object workshop you have to clone the whole object, which creates an entirely new file that you then have to throw away, and which closes objects.package, and file I/O is slow. I dunno, I'm just always mystified by tutorials telling people to clone objects in object workshop for purposes other than creating a new object, like for overriding one resource, for example, and this seems like another mysterious use for that.

I guess they stick their photos on their social media instead

I think the "official" photo thing must be different processes in different countries. In the UK the passport and driving licence application for years has been done by post, so nobody will take a photo of you, you have to provide one. (Now of course, it's online.) Post offices often have a machine, in case you need to attach a photo to your application at the last minute, or in case you use the paid feature where they check your photo meets the size requirements before they send it off. The photobooth is the most common method, although you also used to get photography stores/camera stores who would do it while you wait for a small fee (usually a bit more than a photobooth, but you can choose the picture, whereas photobooth results are never flattering!) I enjoyed the tiny independent one where he had a kind of polaroid specifically set up for passport photos, but I also used Jessops (a chain) where they did it digitally. The real pain was trying to get a photo of a baby or toddler, because they don't understand photobooths, and home photos at that time were tricky because you couldn't be sure that it would come out at the correct size. This is much easier with digital. Still, I remember opening the digital photo on my computer and trying very hard to ensure it would print at the right size. This is all automatically done for you now.

Camera stores are mainly gone now. For a student ID, I did have it taken by the person at the desk, but student IDs are usually only valid on campus and not accepted as ID anywhere else because they all differ between the different institutions.

The response by the bakery owner is VERY German. Still today I am surprised when a bakery in Germany accepts card payments, even though covid forced the contactless issue for a lot of businesses, as people were wary of using cash. My husband was an early adopter of google pay and he received a lot of very confused reactions when attempting to use his phone to pay in store at first. However a couple of years on, it is very normal and most people take it for granted. Sometimes a cashier will be surprised, but not so often any more.

The bakery in question was actually in Croatia where I'm from. But since the diaspora returns from Germany here to visit for the holidays, I wouldn't be surprised that the whole "cash is king" mindset is just the German culture rubbing off on the locals here.
