So ... did anyone get any time/opportunity to see how the whole "neighborhood ages without you" thing works when you switch from one playable family to another playable family? Do they really have babies and things without you?

That would have been the first thing I tested

Yes, they do have babies and things without you, but there is an option to turn Story Progression off so Sims you are not playing at that time won't get married/new job/have babies. With aging, you can either extend the lifespan of all Sims, or turn it off completely.

For example, I met a Sim wandering around town while she was heavily pregnant. A couple of days later, one of my Sims read the newspaper popped up, saying that she had given birth to a baby girl called Tawanna.

I would like to clear up the little matter of my sanity as it has come into question. I am not in any way, shape, or form, sane. Insane? Hell yes!

People keep calling me 'evil.' I must be doing something right.

But was that sim a Townie? Or a premade Maxis sim? I want to know if the premade Maxis sim or any sim you create will do that as well? I know you can turn story progression off, but I had also heard there was a way to decrease the progression without turning it off completely so your premade sims or CAS sims wouldn't get married and have babies without you. *sigh* I guess it's just something I'm going to have to play around with before I'll fully be able to grasp it.

Thanks for posting all that for us. It's great to find out such detailed information. Getting really excited about it now.

Thanks for answering SP :D

Another question that has been bothering me for a while. How does their aging system works? As in: Do they have a panel that says whatever number of day left till...teen ager for instance? Or is it different?

Can you discribe it to me I am really curious thanks in advance!

As for the townie/playable characeter, I don't believe there is a difference. From what I've read, townie = Playable character, because they have a home.

I didn't really think about looking at stuff like that, but there was a bar, though.

I heard that there's a pre-made family where the dad hates children perhaps it could have been that one and it would explain why he didn't do anything for the baby? It's a possibility.

I'm neutral with the whole TS3 thing,I don't plan on buying it but reading this thread I've been going through,"OH MY I WANT IT NOW" to "..maybe not." then back again hahah,I appreciate the reviews though, the more info the better!

Yep! I didn't try this myself, but one of the girls I was watching play before I got a computer decided to go introduce her Sim to their neighbours, despite never meeting them before. Her sim was able to knock on their door, go in, and introduce themselves to the family.

I have a question (not sure if it can be answered but figured I'd ask anyway). When you turn off story progression, are pregnant sims put on 'pause', or will they give birth anyways despite turning off story progression?

Question; So all townies have houses/are playable now? Is it only NPC's that dont have houses/are not playable
Top Secret Researcher
#72 Old 7th May 2009 at 9:06 PM
Yep, all the townies have houses and are playable.

When you get a job, an icon shows up in the map screen over your boss' house.

Interesting. Guess if we don't like the boss we can always go to his house and kick over his trashcan.
