Funny thing is, I never use the aliases at all. I copy/pasted a suggested list of aliases, but I never actually use them. Don't even think to. And I notice at least one error in the bottom two. The cheat is simply plumbbobtoggle. On/off is unnecessary.

I don't have boolProp allow45degreeAngleOfRotation true in mine, but I get that from SeeThem2. Come to think of it, SeeThem2 is checked for boolprop testingcheatsenabled true as well, so I don't actually need it in my startup cheat. Oops.

I don't remember. It's something I read about on Snootysims, and since they went all wonky with their Sims 2 stuff, I doubt I could find it again. I just vaguely know it makes something work better, with some risk of graphical glitches as a side-effect. My game doesn't suffer from any unusual graphics issues, so I leave it there.

VSync syncs the swapping of frames (static pictures on the monitor) with the period of time that it takes to refresh the screen. This helps to prevent tearing, but may slow down refresh. So, if you turn off vsync, you risk seeing tearing on the screen, but your frame rate should go up.

Tearing is when the screen contains portions of two different frames. If the picture is moving, then you will see a disconnect somewhere on the screen; that's called tearing.

Sorry if that's too technical. I can see it all clearly in my mind, but it's a bit difficult to explain. Feel free to ask for clarification.

Most of the aliases were copypasta from someone else - hence the explanations. I know perfectly well what the cheats do. Anyway, I do use the aliases a lot - saves a lot of typing. I have never got the pause to work properly though - it did with the base game - I think it's something to do with having the European version of the game.

Polgannon Project Seriously, I'm still working on it.

Maxon, in regards to "pause", I've found that just hitting the "P" button does the job, no cheat box required. To resume, simply press it again

And If I may be so bold, please may I swipe some of your aliases? I've never got ANY of mine to work... I've obviously typed them in wrong.

No need to use my full name, "Selly" will do just fine.

Well, I assume you're familiar with some of them as commonly used cheats?

The last three on my list have to do with a hack that allows larger households. There are several such hacks, and all of the (as far as I know) require those three lines to be added to the startup routine. Total Sims refers to the maximum number of household members my game will allow. Total Humans is how many of those 36 household members can be human (24), and Total Pets is how many of those 36 household members can be pets (12).

floatprop tvvolume 0.2 determines television volume, from what I understand. I don't remember what the default value is, but many consider it to be too high. Reducing it to 0.2 brings the volume down.

ETA: Mootilda, thanks for explaining VYsync. I can't say I get it completely, but I do think I get the gist. Question: Do VYsync settings apply with the newer flat monitors? I've heard something about them not "refreshing" in the same way the old clunkers did/do.

Oh I know about 'P' and use it because there is no other option (well, apart from the mouse). I wanted the pause button to be on the left of no.1 on the keyboard as it used to be when the game was first released.

As for the aliases - not mine, most of them anyway, so help yourself.

This thread is awesome! I never knew about a userstartup.cheat.

Now I added to mine:

boolProp allow45degreeAngleOfRotation true

This one, intprop maxnumofvisitingsims 40, supposedly affects the number of sims that can be invited to parties and how many can be on community lots at a time.

In my game, though, 8 is the maximum number of party invitees I get, even with this in my startup cheat file, so my info is obviously wrong or incomplete.

It was a Seasons issue to do with rendering the neighbourhood trees. Basically, the game missed a lot of them out from view when you were on lot.

For some reason I could never get the User startup cheat thing to work for me. When I tried, though, I had boolprop snapobjects and the 45degree one. Also had moveobjects off/on. Few others.. Would have been handy but I can't figure it out.

Tired of your workers' faces changing after you set a uniform? See this thread for more details and a potential fix.

Is this what I see when the following happens:

Sometimes I see sims just jump to the next activity instead of moving smoothly. For example, a couple is slow dancing outside and I have queued up "get mail" on one of them.

They stop slow dancing, but instead of moving towards the mailbox normally, the sim just magically jumps/teleports in front of it in a flash of a second. But after this he continues the activity normally.

I've seen this happen in many different occasions.

An issue with it is that if you spell one of the cheats incorrectly, the game stops reading the file at that point. Basically, anything you include after the error doesn't get read and so doesn't work. It's why copypasta from someone else's working userstartup.cheat is a good option.

There is a hack to get rid of the plumbobs without using cheats from Ja Rivera-it's listed in the Best finds section of the site. Unfortunately, that site is gone..but I still have the file. I think that Ja did reopen her site somewhere else, according to GOS.
Will try to find the link for it.

That's also why you also need to be careful not to use cheats from an EP that you don't have.
