Wow! If Eric keeps this up, you'll need to go to cc piercings, or facial tattoos, or something.
I invented the Brotherhood four generations ago, and I play them irregularly. (Mostly when I have too many males in the 'hood.) They've only had one natural alien baby, although one of the original Brothers had the Birth Queen skin, which he passed on to his and his husband's kids. (Yes, husband. It was a major crisis of faith.) The aliens really don't like me for some reason. After my first abduction -- when I was so excited I accidentally quit without saving -- it was three real life years before I had another. I have a Mac, so no FT, but I think that perhaps my Brotherhood wouldn't use Summon Aliens if I did. I think they'd consider it a little pushy...

Uhuh - well you can turn it back on again once you get the picture.

I let my Sims celebrate Christmas, but it's not really a Christian perspective, as it is that I just have lots of decorations for it!
I guess, I see myself as their god, that sees their wants, and may answer them, or I may have other ideas. They look to me I think, maybe it's their pixel way of acknowledging me? I try to guide them, and yet I give them free will to do what they want. But, in regards to their lives, I have in mind who they'll marry, and maybe what career they'll go into. I let them experience disappointment, however, if I messed up, or the game does something, I may not save the situation.
My Sims usually are married before they have kids, but if storyline dictates a lovechild may emerge( hello Don Lothario!). There is very little affairs, unless something happens that is out of my hands. Most of my Sims woohoo before marriage, and live together. But that's just easier sometimes. I have a be fruitful and mulitply system, but that' my fault not their's!
And I may sacrifice some Sims,I don't plan to play in order to make a cemetery for ghost hunters. And yes, I do threaten some of them that I could take them out at anytime- hello Sims whom kick over the trash can, even when I move it...
So, they don't practice any rituals, or go to a church or temple, but they do believe in a higher power.

Rueben Thompson has been born! :-) Here's proud father Eric Thompson:
I have decided that normal-skinned sims get to have silver piercings for producing green-skinned offspring, and green-skinned sims who produce green-skinned offspring will have gold ones.

My Sims way of religion:
Pleasure- They believe life is short and "YOLO" lets live life to the fullest. They just want to have fun.
Family- They believe in good values and family bonding time to raise their kids properly.
Romance- They are usually considered sinners, because most of the time they are the cheaters and the sims to WooHoo before marriage. They think love is not precious, just a pleasure.
Knowledge- They believe there's more out there than they can see and they have to find explanations.
Fortune- Money is everything. It gives you power and a successful future.
Popularity- Reputation matters most, and they want to be almost like a "god" or famous. They treat others kindly to have friends.
Grilled Cheese- Sandwiches are life
That's just general, a lot intertwine. But they all believe:
-There is some type of God, in the cemetery there is a little chapel with holy water, candles, and an altar. On top of the roof is a cross.
-The Grim Reaper is not a devil or angel, he does his job to bring Sims to heaven/hell
-I want the holiday stuff pack so my Sims can celebrate Christmas and New Years

It's only popped up a few times. I haven't done much with it.
Once I decided that the B____ family was a bunch of Russian Jews in their origins, so I added menorahs to every bedroom.
Then when Rhoda Dallas only son killed himself while fixing a computer, she wished him back to life with her last rub of the lamp: and then she built a shrine to some sort of undefined deity out of thanks.

One of my neighborhoods was ruled by an insane vampire queen who instituted a worship-me cult. I was building her a temple complete with a high priestess when I lost access (via motherboard failure). Another neighborhood had a benign background religion that had a central goddess: rich houses had statues of Athena flanking their doors. I also put up Greek statuary in the gardens, representing providence or prosperity.
My current neighborhood has a church building based on a local Episcopal one, as well as a little chapel in the cemetary. While I'm still using the same goddess-worship religion as before, here it's a bit more formalized: I use images of the sun where you might see crosses. For instance, the chapel looks like a Christian church, with two rows of pews facing the front. At the front is a large candle rack, and above it, an artistic version of the sun. The "church" is the private school in my head, as well as a garden and library. The neighborhood has two "priests", and among their responsibilities are making sure the candles in the chapel never go out, sort of like the vestal virgins in Rome. The cemetary name is "Light Perpetual", which is drawn straight from the Anglican "Book of Common Prayer". (I don't know if that phrase is in the English book, or if it was added into the American one..either way, I like it.) The priests are supposed to be counselor-like figures, though the one spends a lot of time in his garden and I have him cast as an eccentric fellow who keeps bees and makes a lot of mead, which he drinks too much of.

As a former Episcopagan Lay Reader/Worship Leader, you got the Goddess worship part right. The rest is too far off either. (I don't want to hijack this thread for a discussion of the Episcopal Church. I do enough of that on religious blogs, thank you very much.):^}

I remember trying to build a church in... either TS2 base game or maybe even TS1. I put lots of pews and ... I think I had to put a TV up at the altar so that people would actually sit and pay attention to the preacher. (I can't remember how I got someone to preach. Maybe there was a microphone or something.) But anyone in the back pews wouldn't be within range of the TV's influence and anyone in the front pews would TALK through the sermon because they were just watching TV. I really need to try this again, and mods would help -- maybe one to use the comedy microphone for just regular speech, and one to make the people sit in the pews as long as there's someone at the mic, rather than getting up and wandering away. (Yes, everyone will be hungry and have to pee after church. Realistic!)
Heh. Other than that... no, my sims don't seem to have religion. I don't think graveyards are a sign of religion, people without religion participate in rituals like burial as well. (I do love making graveyards.) There are lots of things in the game that strike me as ritualistic but not specifically religious. I did download some holy books. But I can't remember if they get any benefit from reading those or if it's just a fun booster.

If I'm doing a themed neighborhood then often there will be some sort of religious practice present in keeping with the theme. E.g., the 1870 beach resort town I'm building right now will have Protestants, Catholics, Jews, and agnostics/atheists. The Deadwood town I built had a street preacher with a little church (before he got murdered on the trail between towns). I have a plan for a Roman Republic neighborhood that will worship Roman gods in various ways, because it really wouldn't make sense for religion to be non-present there; and I plan to make the gods/goddesses themselves actual playable characters so that they can mess with the residents in capricious ways. (That's all on hold at the moment as I'm currently obsessed with my beach resort town.)
When I'm playing a modern-day, normal neighborhood, then my sims don't really have any religion. I do like to build churches and that sort of thing just so that community lots aren't all shops or restaurants. That provides some variety for function and the neighborhood view.

Like others have said, my sims worship ME. Their wants and fears are prayers that I decide weather to grant or protect them from. Sometimes the look up to the sky because they know I'm watching them. I'm not a fair god, though. I let bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad, for my amusement. Although most of the time, the majority of people are just so-so, you know, just living. They appease me by having children, because more sims means more worshippers, more souls to torture MUHUHAHAHAHAAA... Or nurture.
There are no atheists in my sims game. No reason other than it just never crossed anyone's mind that I'm not real... Yet.
(I'm atheist IRL)
I would like to put a little more structure into it, though. Little rules and laws, maybe some discriminations just to make it feel like "home" :P

I downloaded a Bible and let my sims pray occasionally; none of my households currently contain the Bible, and so far the only place that contains one is my party lot, which consists of a wedding chapel (the Bible is placed on a table in this building to add to the religious ambiance), a cemetery with a pond, a bathroom, and an outdoor party set-up, complete with a DJ, buffet tables, and a bar.
It's a pretty sweet lot because I also have the Throw Parties on a Community Lot mod, but I don't really use it for religious purposes so much as for parties.

I've been working on developing a religion based around sims worshipping aliens/the Pollination Technicians. I've done a post in the Wedding pictures thread that explains the traditional Rohelinist wedding ceremony if anyone's interested. The post is here.

My signature points to medieval-renaissance neighborhood that I am currently building. It is still in construction, as I need to add some merchants, some gentryfolk, some nobles, and some clergy members before I play the actual game. The building aspect may take a loooooooooooooooooong time, but I think it's going to be worth it!
Because of the time frame that I use to set the story, religion is a very important part of my Sims' lives, and the Church of Elderbridge is, as a matter of fact, situated at the top of the social ladder. The Archbishop of Elderbridge has tremendous power on everybody else: who shall marry, who shall be granted entry into the Church to partake in Communion, etc. I try to create a semi-make believe religion in that my Sims worship something called the "High Spirit", which is a spirit that is most High. Below the Spirit are everybody else in the social ladder. The spirit actually does not exist in the game, but is frequently referenced in phrases like "praying to the High Spirit".

I don't like religion in real life, so i definely avoid it also during the game.
Anyway, my neighborhoods always come with at least a graveyard, because I like collecting all my dead sims' graves in one place.
I have never celebrated wedding in community lot since I'd BV, I rather prefer to get my sims married at home, often without guests (:
Those are the only ""religious"" things in my game :D

I took a cue from Sims Medieval; the general religion is Watcherism, which has churches and cathedrals in every town. However, the centuries have downgraded its functions to mostly weddings, caretaking for the dead, and aesthetic value

Exactly the way I like to do it. In Pleasantview they get a sort of typical Congregationalist church. Veronaville has a Catholic church sharing it's grounds with a stone circle monument on the 'English' side and a Greco-Roman 'Temple' on the Italian side. Strangetown gets a modernist Mission style church in stucco and cinderblocks and a UFO crashsite shrine(?). I love trying to plan and build this stuff just right, it's more fun than trying to get my Sims to co-operate in playing them properly. Hunting for objects to decorate them can sidetrack me from playing for days at a time. I need to come up with a zombie themed religion and worship site right now, as soon as my two zombies get strong enough to induct more followers.

Some of my sims are religious and some definitely are not - it's part of their character (and game role).

*Calls Grim Reaper* Can I resurrect this old thread? It's such a good one. Here's 10,000 simoleons for your trouble.
My sims believe in a few things depending on their interests, aspiration, and personality points. Atheists are logical and passionate about learning; Grilled Cheese Goddess worshipers are whimsical and loving; Followers of the Grim Reaper are secretive and mysterious; and Llamaists are traditional and stern.
------------
Atheists
------------
Sims with knowledge aspiration, and interests in any of the following:
- environment
- paranormal
- health
- sci-fi
- animals
- culture
will be atheists, in that they believe in all the supernatural stuff, but not as gods, just as interesting different life forms (think Star Trek).
Atheist sims value learning everything, meeting aliens and werewolves, and learning from witches. Some tenants they follow are
- maximizing skill points
- getting promotions
- going to the library
- teaching the toddler skills
- helping kids with homework
These sims tend to go into these careers:
- education
- science
- medical
- natural science
- paranormal
- adventurer
- architecture
- oceanography
These sims don't understand it when other sims fear witches or Bigfoot or any other non-Sim lifeform. They don't understand it when sims don't do their homework.
------------------------------------
Grilled Cheese Goddess worshipers
------------------------------------
Sims with the pleasure, family, romance, or popularity aspiration who are *also* high in niceness AND playfulness will have an affinity for this religion. Grilled Cheese sims are considered the "priests" of this religion.
Sims in this religion believe it is their holy duty to fulfill their Lifetime Want, as it was their destiny given to them by the GCG. They understand that not everyone will have the same Lifetime Want as them, and so they value
- respecting others' choices
- being honest with themselves
- pursuing their dreams
- getting what they want
- learning new skills (especially related to their LTW)
- random acts of kindness
These sims will pursue careers related to
- Slacker
- Show Business
- Artist
- Athletic
- Gamer
- Adventurer
- Entertainment
- Dance
- Music
- Culinary
These sims do not understand it when people try to influence them or others, even if they fall for the influence. To them, using their influence is a sin. They do not understand gossip or being judgemental. They do not understand Law Enforcement sims either, who tend to be strict. They are typically relaxed parents who focus more on happiness and emotions than rules and regulations. Sometimes, they do not notice when their children do badly in school, but if their child likes school, they will always help them with school.
------------------------------
Followers of the Grim Reaper
------------------------------
Knowledge sims, pleasure sims, and romance sims who are *also* shy, grouchy, and serious will gravitate towards worshiping the Grim Reaper. Werewolves, vampires, zombies, witches and other such mysterious sims are usually members of this religion. Sims with interests in the paranormal, travel, entertainment, sci-fi, and the weather might be interested in worshiping the Grim Reaper. These sims believe that the Grim Reaper is their father, and that when they die, they are going home to him. Their time as Sims is like boarding school.
Grim Reaper's followers believe it is their purpose to get through this transitory stage to become ghosts. Being a ghost is considered being enlightened. However, being an immortal being is considered a holy state, as they believe the Grim Reaper has endowed them with the task of educating the younger sims who remain in the physical plane. As such, vampires are the "priests" of this religion. Being bitten by a vampire is a huge ordeal. They often throw large and elaborate parties when a sim becomes a vampire.
When it comes to the family, these sims don't typically have children. Sometimes they have children, but only to pass on their legacy. They cannot conceive of any other reason. The most common way for one of these sims to have a family is to live with siblings, teenagers who came into the household, roommates, or animal friends.
Some things that are important to followers of the Grim Reaper are
- keeping to themselves
- doing things at night
- being mysterious
- wearing black
- ghosts and ancestor worship
- secrecy and ancient rituals
These sims tend to follow these careers:
- Intelligence
- Art
- Natural science
- Oceanography
- Slacker
- Criminal
- Medical
These sims do not understand social situations (nor do they care to), and they do not understand why some sims get offended at others' behavior. They don't understand fighting, marriage or divorce, or having children.
-----------
Llamaism
-----------
Sims who value tradition, conformity, and being respectable. Sims who have an aspiration of Family, Wealth, Popularity, or Knowledge and are very serious, grouchy, or active will be drawn to this religion. In Llamaism, it is frowned upon to indulge in one's every whim, and it is good to be Fit. Being artistic or playful is considered shameful and annoying. These sims are typically interested in
- health
- school
- work
- politics
When it comes to life, Llamaists believe it is their duty to live modestly, meekly, and traditionally. However, some sims forget the "meekly" part, and will acquire fabulous wealth in the name of Lord Llama, because they also believe that hard work means they deserve to be rich. These sims believe it is dangerous to not be married. They believe Death is evil, and that he is more likely to come to unmarried Sims. Llamaists are control freaks; their children are generally not permitted to have friends over unless the friend is from a Llamaist family; children are required to make As in school, teenagers are required to work and make As in school, adults must be married as soon as possible. Typically, the marriage is arranged by their parents, and they must never cheat on their spouses. Adults must have children as soon as possible and they must have as many as possible. Llamaists value
- family
- commitment
- hard work
- piousness
- simplicity
- tradition
- community
Sims are discouraged from going to college, unless it is to pursue a worthy career such as
- Politics
- Medicine
- Law Enforcement
- Business
- Law
- Military
Llamaist sims do not understand frivolity. They do not understand why a sim would require so many different clothes, when the one outfit the Llama picked out for them at Age Transition was functional enough. They do not understand romance sims. One love, picked out by the family, is good enough. They do not understand sims who have no children.
------------------------------------------------------
Positive Relationships between the Various Religions
------------------------------------------------------
Llamaists get along fine with Atheists, but prefer the company of other Llamaists.
Followers of the Grim Reaper do not get along with anyone.
Grilled Cheese Goddess Worshipers enjoy the presence of Atheists and other Grilled Cheese Goddess worshipers.
Atheists can get along with any of the other sims.
------------------------------------------------------
Negative Relationships between the Various Religions
------------------------------------------------------
Llamaists disagree with followers of the Grim Reaper and the Grilled Cheese Goddess worshipers; they are indulgent heretics.
Followers of the Grim Reaper do not care about anyone; they just pay attention to their own lives. However, if someone instigates a conflict with them, they will defend themselves.
Grilled Cheese Goddess worshipers find the Llamaists annoying.
Atheists do not have a reason to dislike any sim, but sometimes they clash with Llamaists when it comes to education standards.

So that's the mistake most people who revive old threads make! They don't pay the Grim Reaper enough and it becomes a zombie thread. XD

All of my sims are non-practicing Jews because it helps me relate to them to better. (Some day I will install Happy Holiday stuff or whatever it's called and figure out how to mod Christmas to be Hannukkah.)

Predominately my sims are Christian using various mods like the statues from the download section mods from affinity sims and my own head canon.
More just as a reflection of my beliefs rather than gameplay wise.
I do have Chris Hatch religion mod medium sized and in my hood there are three gods/godesses as such
there are Lindsay, God and one other whos name i forget.
Most follow the teachings of God as again a reflection of my beliefs. I treat him as the Christian God for my sims even though the religion mod means that any god is just as valid as another in the game. Their individual teachings haven't been ironed out beyond the popup five questions.
Graveyards are plentiful and sad to say recently well populated. Resurrection is rare though known about.
Death lives down the street and believes in God himself (PC version that is, haven't asked NPC Grim though I reckon he does with the constant calls being made)
Unnatural states are accepted for the most part although witches are in hiding. Rumor has it there are undiscovered unnaturals living among the population unnaturals also believe in any of the three gods/godesses whether Lindsay God or the one whos name i forget.
Weddings are preformed at churches if I want the cinematic as the arches are located solely at the churches. Rematra church, Faulan Valley church and Dryis Church. Although many sims have quieter home based weddings. No religous ceremony required though marriage is till death do you part. Seems shorter for some than others.
I've been wanting to add in the kine society cult but have yet to do so. Might bump the god count to 6 so they get their own cult god. 5 gods/goddesses can be randomly distributed including to townies
in the mod 6th plus can only be given directly to the sim family.
Now reading this thread Im wanting to increase the expression of my sims beliefs even just a bit more.
To recap
Predominately Christian Sims, mostly head canon/aesthetic expression of beliefs.

The majority of my sims are Christian, at least to the point that they celebrate Christmas. Some of my sims are Jewish and celebrate Hannukkah. The rest of my sims are agnostic, I think. I might have to get to know some of them a bit better.

We are all about demonstrations of raising the dead-if it truly is raising the dead and not digging up a corpse while saying "me too!" Do that and we will think you stink.
Post #69 is the correct way to raise a dead thread.

Boy... that's not a very inclusive or welcoming view of people of faith. Illogical, stern, serious, grouchy conformists? Despising art, culture and creativity? Even playfulness? Only interested in health, work and politics?? Friendless control freaks? Judgmental and disregarding of education standards?
Sorry, i've seen other posts where you've asked people not to post their opinions if they don't align with yours. I just dont find this to be very tolerant or open-minded.
Some of the greatest art, music and literature has been inspired by faith, in homage to the faithful's beliefs. It was the Quakers' faith that led to the abolition of slavery in North America. And it was the faithful who began the first schools, colleges and education centers.
And frankly, who does deserve to be rich, if not those who worked hard for it?
Every group has their contributions to this world, and every group has their bad actors who make others look bad. We might try to make an effort to be more friendly and understanding, perhaps even welcoming people of different philosophies, to engage in the conversation, rather than slurring them with pejoratives and stereotypes. We don't have to agree... but that doesn't necessarily mean we have to be so disagreeable, either. Understanding, or the attempt to be, is way more valuable than RightThink.
