Ok, summery Aussie folks. I feel very inspired to make warm season clothing for Aussie grandpas. I already have titles for threads thanks to you. How about "Grandpa's Waltzing Matilda" with some hiking shorts and shirts and "Grandpa's Aussie Summer" with some more summery clothes? Now all I need is some clothes to upload! XD I'll make you all a deal. Find me some photos of grandpa shorts, rolled up pants, summer shirts, etc., post them here, and I will try to make two or three of them in the coming month or two.

*squeees like a teenager* I'll hunt around today. Justpetro is actually from South Africa, but same deal. Us southern hemisphere people are coming into summer. Today here will be 40 C.
I'm after something for the younger elder, 50-65. So adult shorts converted to elder. Something that isn't too long or too slim. Just normal shorts with decent footwear. Vans, canvas lace ups or surf sandals. I think most of the elder male wear available needs updating, especially on the shoes. I'd also like a body that doesn't have such skinny 80 year old legs, but I know I am probably asking too much.
These converted to elder

Dare I even say your own shorts but with updated shoes http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=345904 perhaps hiking boots or vans.
Untucked looser fitting shirts. More modern patterns, tropicals or plain. http://www.polynesiandesigns.com/mens-hawaiian-shirts/

These look fun.

I like this one rather than the tucked in shirts. http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=410971 Tucked in always makes Grandpa look lumpy lol.
My dad has tons of those shirts with sayings. XD "Old fishermen never die. Their rods just go limp." To be old and wise you must first be young and stupid." "18 with 40 years experience." "Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional." ... XD

That's what I meant untucked. Those shirts Charity linked to are good, although a little bit longer would be more up to date. I'll remove that one link since I found the real photo later.
A lot of the really old mens's clothing, for 70+ would be fine if the shoes looked better and the pants were full length, I don't get why grandpa has to wear pants above the ankle. I think dress shoes are okay with dress pants but not jeans or casual pants. Really old people tend to wear slippers around the house. My dad, who is 85 wears black sneakers when he goes out because they are comfortable, courdaroy (sp?) pants, polo shirts and some shorts (in fawn/beige) that look quite a bit like the ones in your post. I think it's more the newly turned elder who jumps from looking 20 to 80 are the ones who need the clothes. I try hard to make them look younger

We are also going to get 40 C today
That untucked oodles of Fanseelamb will be perfect for granddad I also love all the suggestions by Jo!
If the elder ladies look fabulous, the elder men should not look like they have bought their clothes at the junk sale or the pavement vendor
Most SA men will feel quite at home in a Waltzing Mathilda T-shirt
Not a request, but a classy thing : the Madiba shirt, made famous by the late, great Nelson Mandela

Thanks so much for the photos! I'll make a few of these in the coming months (barring toddler/work issues). Was already thinking of tropical shirts, have several patterns in a folder just for that purpose! Would also love some shorts with hiking boots.
I made a nude/undie mesh default replacement for grandpa a while back with less skinny legs. Also made replacement pants with lower pantlegs. I do plan to use that less skinny bodyshape for any future grandpa clothes.
Sorry I forgot it's not just Australia that's summery now. There is indeed a whole southern hemisphere! Sim grandpas in Australia, South Africa, and Chile all need pixel shorts!
40 Celsius?! Yikes! I can't even take 32 Celsius. What's the name of that really breezy almost gauzelike cotton fabric? That sounds good for 40 C. Maybe I can find some photos of it.
note to self: look up Madiba shirt...

@Justpetro - I had not heard of the Madiba shirt before, glad you mentioned it. Is this an example of what you are thinking of?
edit: Do teens wear these too or mostly adults and older gentlemen?

And NZ! For true Downunder style, of course, shorts must be worn with jandals lol.
Edit: If elderly men really need something for summer it's swimsuits! Two swimsuits Maxis gave them. Two!

@Charity - Indeed, we must remember the Kiwi grandpas! I am intrigued. What are these jandals you speak of? To google!
Is this it? I can do jandals! Already planning to do Birks, could use the same mesh.
No promises, but I hope I find time for several of these ideas!

As an Aussie with a dad that's a grandpa I'd have to say cargo shorts with untucked polo shirt and joggers (sports/running shoes).
ETA: Also jeans with polo shirts
ETA: Jandals - thongs, flip flops.

@joandsarah77 - Shorts with vans exist! Link below. If there's no elder version, I can make one. Let me check Body Shop...
It's teen through elder.

@CatofEvilGenius
Yes, here are some pics of the man himself wearing them. The story is nice ; the designer thought he would look good in it and she gave him one. He liked it so much that he was inaugurated as President in it It was the start of a tradition. It has been popular with all ages, not really kids, but tall men look better in them, of course.

CatOfEvilGenius has updated her Elder shorts mesh default and created a new version of the shorts using that edit. You can get the updated version from her journal at MTS2. |
Only I don't see this mesh on your journal. I like that top you posted there yesterday though.

Oh God. The stubbies. XD Worn with anything from gumboots to jandals. I have to admit that they are a kiwi staple and I can totally see less classy grandpas wearing them lol. Don't think I've seen them for adults or teens either, come to think of it.
Thanks heaps for this!

I've never heard of jandals, we call them thongs or sandals. Living in the country I've certainly seen my fill of horrible stubbies worn with gumboots; that or the budgie smugglers. I want neither for my old sims lol.

Sandals are different things to me. Jandals have only the one strap up the top whereas sandals usually have a bit that goes around the back and a strap across the front as well.
We could get you a mankini ala Ali G. XD

These come in tan, grey, army green, brown, and black. Adults done, going to do teens and elders too. Also want some athletic shorts with sneakers and a high boot version. We'll see how much time I have...
So none of these are stubbies. Question about stubbies. Are the leg bottoms straight across, or is there a curve up on the right and left, like in some ladies athletic shorts? I'll check google images. Need a side view of stubbies.
@Michelle - These come in grey too, a bit like one of the pics you posted. Might make a version with sneaks.

OMG! I love the hiking boots and sandals with the cargo shorts, they are perfect. Took one look at the short shorts and the first thing that came to mind was Warwick Capper (sorry, only the Aussies will understand that) :D
