Default Attempting a shoe swap and need some guidance
Hello everyone. If it's one thing I love it's maternity clothes and I actually tend to like the Maxis defaults. What I'm trying to do is do a shoe swap of the Maxis maternity with Semller's Adidas. I have the mesh from terrible self-sims with the pantless bottoms (link here https://gardenofshadows.org.uk/gard...p?topic=32779.0) So far I've followed this tutorial: https://gardenofshadows.org.uk/gard...p?topic=18661.0

I've successfully gotten the shoes removed and added to the mesh but I'm having trouble matching the vertices up and linking the separate meshes together. I'll try and attach some screenshots to show where I'm at. I'm also having trouble grabbing the textures and editing them since I'm dealing with custom CC and base maxis frankenmeshing. What should my next steps be from here? I would greatly appreciate it if someone could walk me through this. I have little experience with meshing and I may be jumping into the deep end but god I really want this to work out.

Sorry for the dual monitor setup I forgot it was on when I took the screenshots. Thanks again and I hope someone can help me/walk me through this a little bit. I think it looks ok and I think I cut the right areas for sure but I just need some guidance on the next steps. Thanks everyone!

Are you making a default replacement or a new, custom mesh with recolors?
I'm not that good with the default replacement method, so can't help too much there.

For the custom mesh, are you planning to keep the shoes as a separate mesh group (not linked to the skintone, AKA noblend), or do you want to combine them with the outfit (could maybe work, but there's a chance the shoe texture will overlay the hands, which won't look good).

For combining the meshes, the shoe tutorial could work.

For the Noblend method, I suggest you take a look at these tutorials:
https://skellington7d.livejournal.com/89549.html
http://stonegod.org/sims2/tutorial/...rial/index.html (roughly same method for fullbody)
3t2/4t2 tutorials tend to use the same method too, because the UVmapping is very different between the games. Adding the outfit as a separate group allows much easier editing because there's no need to do more advanced UVmap editing.

Thanks for the Reply! I'm trying to make a default replacement and combine the bottom shoe mesh with the original full body maxis mesh. I'll definitely check this tutorial out. Which one would be best to do?

So i think I was able to do the swap pretty well but for some reason my outfits in game and in the shop are coming out blurry with the top part and the shoes are a little funky too. What am I doing wrong? Attached is the texture file that I redid and also an ingame screenshot.

If you replaced the texture in SimPE, did you use the Nvidia dds tools to import the texture as dxt3 or dxt5, or did you use the default Import? Dxt3 or 5 will give a cleaner result (use png with alpha already applied, because importing the texture with dxt then the alpha with the alpha import can give a worse result), while Import and dxt1 can cause blurriness.

I can't check the texture size at the moment, but make sure it is 1024x1024.

I used the default import tool. How do I go about using the NVIDIA tool?

https://developer.nvidia.com/legacy-texture-tools
Download the "DDS Utilities" tool (first in the list).
Install this file by double-clicking the exe file and follow the commands.

Open Preferences in SimPE. In the "System folders" tab, below the file paths for your game folders, you'll see the "Nvida DDS Tool Folder" path. Click "browse" next to "Nvida DDS Tool Folder" and find the correct path. Should be something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\DDS Utilities". You might have to restart SimPE for it to take effect.

When you now open a file you want to recolor, open the TXTR resource.
- Right-click the image in the Plugin View. Click "build DXT".
- Under "format", select DXT3 or 5.
- Under "Sharpen", select "none".
- Open the texture you made with the "open" button.
- When the texture shows in the little window, click the "build" button in the corner. The tool updates all sizes for you, so no need to do that later.
- When the texture is updated, click "commit". Now you can either continue editing the file or save it.

Thank you so much! You’ve been a tremendous help. I’ll give it a shot and let you know how it turns out.
